Aces' Kubelwagon radio car v1 readme.

Welcome,

This mod for Steel Fury features a new version of Maleshking & Stone2009's excellent Kubelwagon 3D model. I have added a Torn.Fu.d.2 radio transceiver and battery pack, accessories, jerry cans and radio operator wearing headphones. I have also re-skinned the model in panzer-grey colour scheme and added suitable tactical and national markings. The mod also features real Kubelwagon engine sound and morse code message sound effects.

Install to your "Mods" folder and enable using JSGME. If you are using my earlier SdkFz 251 and/or German Equipment mods then enable the Kublewagon mod after these mods.

Unfortunatelly I have bad news...

If I install just the essential mods:

I get a critical error when I try to load a mission (for example the first Friedericus campaign mission).

Can anybody use the mod without problems?

Hi mate,

Sorry to hear that you've had problems, modding for this game is a real PITA.

What I've done is compress all the files in my cofig and levels folder and uploaded them here:

It is a bit of a sledgehammer approach but worth a try. Install after the mods in your list. I cannot gaurantee that there aren't some mission files in there that might not run but the main point is to see if there's a file that I've got that you haven't. As I'm running SPM 1.5 with both the ultimate update and june patch the files should all be there. You can always just un-install it after you've tried it. I modified the Wermacht campaign mission "Andrekeeva" SP. to try out the Kubel as there's aren't any specific mission for it yet.

PS, if it works then you could also re-install my infantry other mods as per the order in my first post and see if it helps there as well.

Okay mate,

Thanks for trying, just to check you installed the new download after the kubelwagon mod without my other mods?.

I'm at a loss to explain, the other day I checked the files included in the equipment mod v2 vs spm 1.5 mods and my patch and I can't see any other files that are effected. My best guess is that it is a memory thing. The only difference between v1 of my infantry mod and v2 is a few files, the .go files for the radio equipment and accompanying tectures the rest are config file additions which I have incorporfated in the previous patch. I can even run my mods without the patch and they work!, the recent patch was an attempt to make my work 100% compat with the latest SPM1.5 patch. It's sould destroying producing mods that run just fine here but not in some cases elsewhere. It's even more of a mods soup that SH3 and that's saying something!.

Back to the drawing board. I think that after I finish my 251/2 mod then I'll part company with SF as it's a real pain to mod for.

ps: one last thing you could try is to activate the equipment mod v2 AFTER the v1 rather than instead of v1 incase there's a file missing in v2 but I'm not holding my breath on that one as I think I checked one against the other.

I have also tried activating the equipment mod v2 AFTER the v1.... unfortunatelly no luck...

I have 4 GB of RAM and Windows 7 64 bits. The memory problem would be strange I think....

okay, thanks for the report, I'll have another look round tomorrow, I am also wrunning Windows 7 with 4GB ram and a 2GB RAM card.

Asmy last upload didn't fix things then the files must be in another folder/s. If you eliminate the textures and go folders (as I can't have missed a texture or go file from v2, I'll check) then I think it is time to look at the other files/folders.

Edit1: I think I might have nailed it, you are correct it is one file. I just need to see what the problem is and then I should be able to release a one file fix for both the equipment v2 and kubel mods. :)

Edit2: This doesn't make much sense, I've spent 6 hours going round in circles. I've founf the line in the file that seems to be causing the problem but there isn't anything wrong with it and the related entries in other relating files. As I copied over the equipment v2 mod from my other game mods folder I know it is the same and there it works so it must surely be related to another mod or file left over from a mod that's lurking somewhere. What a "$%$£$% to find!. :(. I can resolve the problem but it would mean loosing the only benefit of v2 versus v1 and that's the radfio gear so there's no point in doing that.

PS. The problem seems to have been two-fold. Firstly there was a an anim  "go" file that I made that was in my games folder but I omitted from the German Equipment mod v2 when I zipped it up. That's why it worked for me and not for others. Then there was a slight problem with a missing "," in one of the .engcfg files. Ironic really, hours of modelling and texture work undone by two very small things!.

It means that crew of the kubelwagen can't find accumulator for the radiostation, that's why they have such funny positions :D

No, I just placed only er radio-car. All other stuff should be implemented in the next SPM UU. My mod-missions are always has a test character.

That's the one that I did the other evening not the release version, that's why I was getting confused Alex. LODs 2 and 3 didn't have "s" or "p" fragments but I will send you the 3d max file later by e-mail as promised. That file I sent you the other day was not for public consumption until finished so I wasn't expecting you to post it here :)

Of course, I'm kidding :D When I saw picture at first time, it right immediately occurred to my mind, that crew try to find smth. inside the car and I decided - OK, let it be a battery :)

LOL Alex,

I'm pretty tired today didn't get back till late yesterday evening and didn't sleep well so not very fast of thought today :D.

You know I'll help in any way that I can, I'll send you the max file this evening when I get in from work. I'm really looking forward to seeing the radio car in a mission. Your missions are always fun and I love seeing the less "usual" vehicles in missions, great fun, amkes a very welcome change and adds variety to the game.

Leigh, it has been accustomed for me to using a new stuff in all my missions ;) It's always interesting and has a some kind of challenge: can I play with madness? :)
