Post by: lockie on October 07, 2012, 09:00:26 PM
I started a new mission with a new features as usually :)
Some screenies:
(http://s5.postimage.org/kyjyf92fn/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/kyjyf92fn/)   (http://s5.postimage.org/9nhaqvvkj/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/9nhaqvvkj/)   (http://s5.postimage.org/hu9aigln7/image.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/hu9aigln7/)

(http://imageshack.us/a/img820/1950/pzvc.jpg)

First part (http://www.4shared.com/rar/jgbGdNYk/Defend_Fatherland_pI.html) of the mission released!
Second part still delayed, coz the next models needs to be adjusted:
- building-tank
- housemodule
- pantherturm
Anyway, we've a chance to have a look and find some bugs :)
Some notes:
ATTENTION! The mission was made at the base as “INSTALL-PLAY-UNINSTALL”, because I had to add a new units, new tanks and made some fixes. Don’t forget to UNINSTALL the mission after the game over! Or use it at your risk.
- mission created on the base of the mod SPM1.5 NTA1.3;
- mission-mod is not compatible with SPM1.5_ultimate_update. So, be warned.
- mission created on the base of the originally generated polygon attk_shyrz (all source files included);
- there’s an alternative mission ending;
- added a new music fragments for the mission starting/ending(no more then 30 sec);
- added a new flora: sunflowers by Maleshkin;
- fixed texture m4a3-76 (removed black spots from the upper glacis);
- removed some annoying sounds of the german crew: faster, forward, right/left etc.
Added a new tanks/objects:
1. Panther ausf. G by Donken (with a bugs fixing by lockie);
2. Building-tank (for the town) by Donken, lockie;
3. Railroad by Donken
4. Sandbags (for the town) by Donken
5. Housemodule (for the town) by Donken, lockie;
6. Panterturm by Maleshkin, Donken, lockie;
7. Nebelwerfer by Maleshkin;
8. new town slab2 (adjusted by lockie);

Weight: ~60Mb

See readme for more details.

Cool idea the pantherturm!

Lockie you can call your mission "Defend the Fatherland " using the proper English translation for the German word Vaterland. You could use the German patriotic sound " Die Wacht am Rhein " as musical background.It's  a very popular and rousing song ( as only the Germans can do outstanding marching songs) from the mid 19th century. I am posting a youtube video link where you can hear it if you like!

With these buildings and the aircraft hangars we could create military bases.

Without fuel tanks it's impossible :( Though, it's a good idea to use in the mission a military base instead town. I like it! And as I remember a couple oil tanks were placed in the hangar. So, we've a chance ;)

A couple of the new screennies:
1. at the entry of town
(http://s5.postimage.org/rt5s8tz0z/build_01.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/rt5s8tz0z/)

2. at the place of rest in piece
(http://s5.postimage.org/mvs7npx1v/build_02.jpg) (http://postimage.org/image/mvs7npx1v/)

Suppose a new mission will be ready during the next month. In fact, there will be two missions:
- first: defend suburbs of the town
- second: defend the storage in the town
ps
and I want to create a new mission: bike racing :D

I don't think so. At this moment there's a possibility to create smth. similar to battle in town, but of course the game wasn't organized for such operation.

Wow! That's really odd.... I have copied the lines and I'll take a look and compare with other type of objects ( solid and soft ) to see if there's a value that needs to be adjusted so your buildings don't turn into ash. I am not making any promises but I'll try.

Otherwise Lockie no more shooting bricks! ;D

Unfortunately, there is a bug which I can't get over. When building destroyed, it's disappeared :( There are only a couple of campfires instead destroyed building.

That will happen when the 'destruction model' line is left empty.

The important line to note:

Quote
   //destroy description
   destr_desc = ;

I wrote a little bit about this in a different post:

I was also thinking the same thing.After reading various obj_cfg files for other buildings I noticed that your dest_ desc; entry was missing something.It should read housemodule_d; or house_module_d;

Also a couple of things; the description for the armour_maps seems to be wrong;.I think it should read :

//armor
 armor_map = armor_maps\objs\house_module.tga;

2) try lowering the //Fire
                            flame_p value from 0.35 to 0.15 like for most buildings.This way your buildings will be less likely to catch fire.

Actually I would recommend naming the destruction entries differently, in this format:

<name>n_d

Where 'n' is a numeric (single digit).

The game is quite finicky about this. Things become like a slide-show, if the naming isn't just right. I assume all the destroyed fragments have been modeled?

What brings you to this conclusion Kyth?

Some experience in configuring the damage models for the new buildings (and written the tutorial for it) might have something to do with this 'conclusion'.

Unfortunately, AI is always cheating, coz he can see through the building and I don't know, which flag should be set up to make it not transparent.
At this moment:
   //collision group
    //0x01 - take shadow
   //0x02 - take track
   //0x04 - transp
   //0x08 - hum nocol
   //flags=0x10;
   //flags=0x0b;
   //0x0f=0x08+0x04+0x02+0x01=15dec
   //0x0e=0x08+0x04+0x02=14dec
   flags=0x0f;

I assume all the destroyed fragments have been modeled?
No, coz the building is not destroyable. I think, I can replace model with a burned texture, i.e.
housemd1_d, which will be exactly the same as normal building, but with differ texture.

Here's a next funny pictures :)
Snipers on the roof!

Kyth; I guess you can safely assume that you have won the argument and I will leave the battlefield with whatever dignity I have left ;D

BTW for those interested I have managed to make the bridges burn in game.All you need to do is add a simple entry in the obj_cfg file and thne shoot at the bridge with HE shells and does it ever burn fiercely!I have pics which I will upload and post.Once I get my flora files back I'll experiemnt with the vegetation and trees....

Why not use flag 0x10? The other buildings use this.
Except for the bridge, which is 0x0b, (I assume is '0x01 + 0x02 + 0x08')

In the map editor, the contour has to be tagged in the 'Tactical Zones' as a building.

Lockie, I took a look into the obj_cfg file for the barrage.It's made of concrete like your building thus the possibility that the destruction model should be similar is good.Looking at the block() paragraph the flag entry for it is:flags      =   0x0a;

Since your buildings are, normally, largely madewith blocks why don't you try that?

The new building-tank is a very unstable, so I need to calculate a moments, where moment = distance from center mass*mass

mass = 100 000kg
building length = 95m
building height = 50m

How to do that?
jx=? jy=? jz=?

Somehow it works at the next parameters:
jx=11000000;//forward/back
jy=9000000;//right/left
jz=9000000;

but it takes too much time to find out them, coz it's experimental data.
Any hints?

ps
I'd like to put in the building 10 soldiers:
- 5 faustpathron
- 3 MG-34
- 2 anti-tank rifle
At this moment building has one machine-gunner.

I found another bug - infantry can get through the building-tank! But it looks quite real, coz in fact soldier can go into the houses ;)

PS
Panther G is a best tank of the WWII! Well, at least in the SF mods ;)

Don't get me wrong; I love the KV-85 it's one of my favourites tanks but I was just surprised to see it in a late war scenario considering that about 320 were manufactured in late 1943 and by late 1944 there were just a handful left...

As for me too I will like to shoot the bricks of your buildings in the upcoming mission... ;D

Good shooting Panzer Kommandant Lockie!  Speaking of the Su-76 - which is a pretty good spg - I was having trouble killing those little buggers.I opened the tech_cfg file and I found out that the arm_str was set at 100 and the arm_ qual set at 2030???No wonder it was hard to kill.I set those values down to 52 and 2000 and now it's fine.

Parameters of SU-76 are quite OK. Well, may be instead armor_qual=0.85, I'd have been written  armor_qual=0.7 But take er pick, at this moment the parameter armor_thick=100, the biggest thickness of SU-76 is 26mm.  if u write armor_thick=52 then u'll get a very weak armor ~14mm ;)

Really???Ok I'll reset it to 100 then! But I think the arm_str at 2030 ias too much sicne all other spgs are set at 2000???I'll try setting the arm_qual at 0.85 and see how it goes!

As for being transferred to your squad I am looking forward to it so I can drive and fight in a Panther.
 :D
BTW can you set the nebelwerfer to shoot at targets like you do for the other guns in the game????

Really???Ok I'll reset it to 100 then!
There is a formula:
100mm = 100rgb(white-black color)
26mm = 26rgb
in er case
52mm=100rgb
x = 26rgb
where x=26*52/100~14mm

Well, yes it's a bit exaggerated, for the game balance ;) There should be 2000.

Excellent! But firstly I need a good and strong loader! :D

I've bumped into one interesting feature or bug. According to the picture, a building-tank has only this zone to be destroyed, all other are invincible for the bullets/shells.

This is really great work Lockie! You ve done wel by the Fatherland! We really need to have sandbags and better gun emplacements in this game ( TvsT has them! to make more convincing defensive battles!

Hem Lockie!  ;D Das Deutsches Kreuz in Gold it was only bestowed for multiple and extraordinary acts of courage in leading troops on the battlefield.Destroying 2 tanks is not enough. However I am sure we can find you some kind of medal for your distinguished work on the buildings! May be some Reichsarbeitsdienst Ehrenzeichnung/?

I don't know what it does, but I'm ready to be rewarded(again) :D :P  ::)
And I'd like to suggest a good scenario for the next mission:
Curious episode occurred Jan. 17, 1945 in g.Herlishaym, France. Town was attacked the "Panther" 10-SS Panzer Division "Frundsberg". American artillery destroyed several tanks, so that the streets burst into only two “panthers". Firing point-blank, they knocked a few minutes a few “Shermans”. Above the rest a white flags rose up and their tank crews had not yet joined the battle! As a result, the Germans got 12 serviceable machines. This behavior is explained by the American tank categorical instruction command, forbidding a fight with “Panther” at close distances.

Unfortunately, I can't get over some issues with housmodule and I want to announce that project "battle in town" closed. Buildings models, which were implemented to the missions, works somehow, but they are full of bugs. Anyway for the beauty and game atmospheric they looks quite nice ;)
