Title: Mission Pack 2.1
Post by: lockie on November 15, 2012, 07:57:36 PM
I'd like to suggest the next compilation of user-made missions. Red color what already compiled.

This “mission pack” was created only on the base of NTA (New Tank Addon) Mod and for the English game version. There are 42 missions.

Recommended INSTALLATION ORDER: (through JSGME (http://www.4shared.com/rar/XhoSpAg4/jsgme_v_231_Nov_2009.html)):

1. Sound Mod (NTA) 1.1 (http://www.4shared.com/rar/UD_5eI9N/Sound_Mod__NTA__10.html) compilation of the sounds, which adjusted to the same format: 44kHz, 16bit, mono.
2. Missions pack v2.1 (http://www.4shared.com/get/cI74Ih2l/Missions_pack_20.html)
3. NTA 1.8 full(beta) partI (http://www.4shared.com/rar/IsVaT--R/SPM__NTA__18_full_beta_part1.html), partII (http://www.4shared.com/rar/DxFe70Fp/SPM__NTA__18_full_beta_part2.html)
4. MayUpd_2014 (http://www.4shared.com/rar/NxkGLdfXce/05_MayUpd_2014.html)
5. Any weather mod (optional)
Weight: ~ 600Mb

I suppose to finish a compilation to the end of this week, but it's impossible, coz SPM UU has too many mistakes.

Now I'm working with deviator's missions and this citation really shocked me. It's unbelievable!
Here's my very simple and not perfect translation:
Original  rhythm of style was set up in the military life near Pogostie. During the night a reinforcement came: a hundreds, a thousand, a two or three thousands people. The were a military sailors, the marsh companies of Siberia, the blockade survivors (they were transferred on the frozen lake Ladoga). In the morning, after a rare artillery support, they rushed into attack and remained lying in front of the railway embankment. The attack movement was with a snail's pace, breaking through the deep snow trench and forces were not enough,   especially people from Leningrad. The snow stood above the belt, the dead soldiers were not falling, they stuck in snowdrifts. The corpses covered with a fresh snow and the next day was a new attack, new bodies, and during the winter there were formed a layers of the dead bodies, which only in the spring up from the snow - crooked, twisted, torn, crushed bodies. The whole stacks of them.
Nikulin N. N. "The Memories about the war"

What a waste of human lives!Despite official Soviet denegations the Germans and their allies documented very well the human wave attacks tactics used by Soviet leaders and commanders recklessly wasting thousand of soldiers just to be mowed down by mgs or artillery.There were political commissars, all NKVD cowards, shooting soldiers who retreated or who tried to save their lives.Probably half of all Soviet military casualties could have been avoided had Soviet commanders relied more on tactics and less on steamroller policies. Zhukov and Koniev were 2 good examples or not giving a damn about their soldiers lives... But then Czarist commanders were no better. The Truth is that Russian/Soviet leaders have always had low regard for their populations....

Too bad ! He was one of the pioneers of SF and he made good missions and maps! I think the Sobolevskii district maps and missions which are used in a modified version in the T34-85 campaign "the T34-85 Weapon of Victory " come from him originally. :-\

I agree the waste of lives was a two-side affair; a contest between 2 bloodthirsty dictators but on the Soviet side the losses were much more severe proportionally...

So far, the best mission for Simashkovo is a mission for SU-76(as my point).
Interesting situation, I've managed to hit PzIV H, but he did it also. Finally, a victory was counted to my rate ;)

There's no penetration, suppose a fragments?

Both your Su-76 and the Panzer IV suffered one penetration hit each.Both were hit by shells that punched through the crew compartment all the way to the engine.

SU-76 it's in fact, a light tank T-40, imho. Then no wonder, it's a really weak armored machine. As for Pz IV H - well, I may say that this tank(game model) even weaker then T-34-76.

As my point:
1. Mission Z.Kolobanov (KV-1e)
2. v. Zagorno, 22 June 1944y. 20:30 (SU-76)
3. The real Churchill! (MK. III)

As I know, the default missions for SF were 30! And now we've 40! Well, only five years gone :)
Also interesting, that 60% of the missions devoted to the Soviet and only 40% to the German side. And this is in spite that German machines had more quantity of the variable techniqes types to compare with a Soviet ;)

Seelow Heights, April 16, 1945. 0900 Tiger Panzer VIH.

Defending Seelow was the stated objective. At mission end there were 3 Tigers plus various German infantry alive and in Seelow.  All the enemy had retreated or died (apparently).
Still the scenario would not end.  This is silly.  Because of 2 or 3 frightened enemy soldiers with, urine stained pants, hiding in a hole somewhere on the map the scenario won't end in victory until you scour every inch of the map in a Tiger tank to hunt them down.  If you are in possession of the objective and the enemy is not trying to attack and take it away from you, then the scenario should end in your favor.  These kind of endings are frustrating.

Funny? Because I played that mission 3 to 4 times twice I was defeated and my Tiger and all German defences were destroyed and twice I won;the last time my Tiger killed 22 tanks( I Played at balance 10) and killed lost of infantry and despite some Soviet infantry surviving and in retreat I obtained the Mission Successful message! Mind you I had my Tiger going down the slope and trying to mop up any Sov resistance.That may have done the trick!

Sometimes the missions go haywire. Try re-starting and make sure you kill all the tanks ;)

To frinik, what's your secret? I put myself in a hull-down on top of one of the hills so that only my turret is showing, but I can generally only manage about 12-14 kills before I get nuked by a JS-122.

To everyone else, try playing as a Stug III or Panzer IVH. surviving the first two waves feels like winning the lottery :P

While I have not had a problem with newer missions made by users yet I did experiance a small problem with one of the first ever user made missions. Was playing Un-named Hill by stone2009 and had destroyed the two German attacks (I thought) but a couple StuG's snuck up on my left flank (nice surprise  :o ). My driver was KIA but I manged to kill the StuG's. Then I was ordered to support some T-34/76 in attacking a village. Well I knew my driver was dead so I put the bow machine gunner at the drivers station and ordered my KV-1 forward, nothing happened. I tried several replacements (figuring the bow machine gunner wasn't capable of driving the tank) but it wasn't until I personally went to drive the KV-1 that I saw the red oil can in my display, the engine was kaput. I figured the mission would end after awhile (time trigger) but it didnt and I had to end the mission manually. I love this mission and since it's an early one I just live with the fact that these mission makers were just starting to learn the ME.
Cheers

This is my variant of the mission "Seelow Heights, April,16, 1945. 09:00 (Tiger PzVI H)".
I've made it more easy to get victory, but I didn't remove any soviet units ;)

I may try to adjust this mission, but I don't know how to calculate, if tank engine dead :) Decreased efficiency? But I don't like that variant, coz u've unmovable tank, but u're still alive and mission over? It's unfair. Anyway, I'll have a look on the triggers, which responsible for the fail.
 What's missions so far do u like?

To frinik, what's your secret? I put myself in a hull-down on top of one of the hills so that only my turret is showing, but I can generally only manage about 12-14 kills before I get nuked by a JS-122.

Whukid my secret is simple:precise, long range shooting. I use the Tiger's excellent optics and and deadly Kwk36 to kill as many tanks as possible from ranges as far as 1700 metres and more.I also select the targets based on lethality.For example I will alway target Su-100s and JS-2s first as they are deadly even at long range.TheSU-85 and T-34/85s come next with the rest of the fray in 3 rd place the 76 mm calibre threats( Shermans, T34/76 etc) and the slow firing and low velocity threats like the SU-122/ 152 last. For example in the Seelow Heights mission I killed half the tanks when they were at ranges of 1200 metres and beyond. I also use concealment as much as possible. I have made many practice missions with the Tiger I and II, Jagdpanther, Panther, Pzr IV/H , KV-85 and KV-1 so that my shooting skills are good to the point I can easily and accurately estimate the distance to the target and kill/disable it with 1 or 2 shots even if it's moving.With the Tiger I my best shot in game( I have a pic) is a T34-85 which I killed at 1980 metres( on the Zawody map).With the Jagdpanther a little over 2000 metres with the Panther(D) 1786 metres, with the Tiger II it's 2242 metres.The maps are too small to have longer shots but long enough to achieve long range kills.Some maps like Izum, Kazan, Gerasimovo, Zawody, Dolina etc give you just the right combo of a vast expanse of flat land or plains and a couple of Hills where you can park your tank and turkey shoot tanks from far away.BSSR1 by Deviator with it's  lovely steep hills and depressions and lakes is perfect for long range and ambush type missions.

BTW thw Kwk43 is an amzing weapon it's long range killing capacity both in game and in real life combined wiht the excellent optics made it probably the best anti tank weapon of the war.Considering the Tiger II could pack up to 86 shells( half AP half HE) with a reload rate almost 3 times the JS-2 and a powerful armour could have made it an awesome mass tanks killing machine had the Germans produced or deployed it in late 1942 or early 1943 in the numbers originally planned ( 1500 units) instead of the Tiger I before they suffered shortages of fuel snd training and constant retreats. Soviet victory in the East could have been delayed by 6 months or more.

My secret is that I use the gunsight tzf12 for the Tiger I instead of the tzf9a or b which I dislike.It's similar to the one used by the Panther but the magnification for the Tiger a bit more and with the horizontal line as a base and adjusting the reticle based on approximate distance and with practice( + I have a keen eye for distances) I have become quite proficient at quickly adjusting the range and hitting targets.Plus I set the AP shell complement for the Tiger I at 60( 32 HE) as per historical data thus I rarely run out of shells even when confronted with a multiplicity of targets.With the Steel Panzer mod 1.4 I managed to put a max of 144 tanks on the battlefield and still get decent frame rates.With Beta 1.5 or Ultimate 80 is the max I can field.No infantry thoughbecause it kills the fps.With infantry I have to reduce the number of the tanks/spgs to 45 to 60.

Where do you find the tzf12 for the Tiger I?
How do you adjust the number of shells that the Tiger begins the mission with?

Thanks lockie will test it out ASAP. Thanks for making this new mission pack. I did try the earlier mission pack 1c a couple years ago but the missions just refused to work properly. It was a real shame as I was never able to get the earlier single missions by stone2009, deviator and others to work right in SFK42 either. I really enjoy finally getting to try these missions by the earliest SFK42 ME pioneers.  I will list my 3 favorite as soon as I have had a chance to really spend some quality time with them  ;)

The tzf12 was the original gun optic for the Tiger I when the Tiger mod came out in 2009.I think it's a binocular versus the tzf9b which is monocular. When they switched from the tzf12 to the 9 a or b I didn't like it so I kept copies of the tzf12.Everytime a new mod comes out I systematically switch the opitcs in the tech_cfg folder which is where you incidentally adjust the number of shell as below:

//ïðèöåëû
   sights()
   {

      sig_gunner,    s_camera_gunner,    tzf12,         0.0, sig_gunner, ;

If you want it just replace the standard tzf9b by tzf12  on this line in your Tiger I tech_cfg folder instead of the original one.

For the shells just manually replace the standard 39 ,5, 32 by what's below.I've done away with the PZgr40 for 2 reasons, after mid 1943 due to shortage of wolfram(tungsten) and manganese they were reserved for the PaK crews and seondly in game they are useless .Too light they don't do any damage.
:
//áîåêîìïëåêò
   shells()
   {

      PZGR39_88K, 60, 0, 0;
      PZGR40_88K, 0, 0, 0;
      SPRGR_88K, 32, 0, 1;

                BUL_792, 5100;

RE shooting another tip: The co-axial MG( the one next to the main gun)'s elevation is synchronised to the gun 's.Thus after adjusting the reticle to aim at the target what you do is fire a burst of machine gun rather than shoot the main gun.Check where the tracers land as it 's where your shell will also land/hit.Thus you can quickly adjust your aim before firing the gun and save your shells...very useful for long range shooting when your target is too far away to hit back.Even at mid ranges it allows you to hit the target before it can hit you...

Tanker, the tech_cfg folders are in your game main data folder: data/k_42/levels/LEVELS/tech_cfg.

You can open them with either Notepad or Microsoft word.Just save what ever changes you make before exiting the file

Whukid is your question to me ?

Here's another citation from the mission.
And raised a hundreds Ivanov and drifted through the deep snow under cross shots of german machine guns. And the Germans in warm pillboxes, well-fed and drunk, insolent, provided with everything, all figured out, all areas were under fire and shot, shot as at the rifle-range. However, the enemy soldiers were not so easy. Recently a german veteran told me that the gunners of his regiment were cases of insanity: it’s not so easy to kill people in a row by the row - and they still come and come, and there is no see the end of them.
Nikulin N. N. "The Memories about the war";

It's absolutely out of my mind. German machine-gunners had a cases of insanity. I think it was a single type of harm, which soviet generals try to use against enemy...

frinik, I have two tiger cfg files.  One is tiger.engcfg  11/14/2012  50kb (NTA update perhaps?)  And the other is tigerr.engcfg 3/13/2012 11kb (notice the double r in tgerr)
These seem to be the only files that are like that.  Which one do I modify?
Does anyone else have this setup?

The Tigerr stands for the Soviet Trophy Tiger ( r is for Russian I guess).The first one, the biggest, is the one that contains all 3 German models of the Tiger I, the 1943 H version, the SS and the late( 1944) which should be called Ausf E rather than H.You have to make the changes to the entries for all 3 models so they all have the same characteristics.It's annoying but only 5 -10 mins of work.If you feel like it do it for the Trophy Tiger if you are planning to play it.

I can't help myself to answer :)
tgerr means a trophy soviet tiger ;)
So, if u want to change an ammunition quantity, u've to go to the file:
...\data\k42\loc_rus\levels\levels\tech_cfg\tiger.engcfg
and make the next changes in the block shell in case double it:
shells()
{
PZGR39_88K,   78, 0, 0;
PZGR40_88K,   10, 0, 0;
SPRGR_88K,   76, 0, 1;
SMK_MT,      24, 0, 3;
BUL_792,   10200;
}

But I'd recommend to make changes in the mission as for ammunition quantity.

I was playing the lone KV-1E defending the village against hordes of German Pz III and IV.  I was a bit disappointed by the effectiveness of the armor piercing shell, sub calibre I think it's called.  I'm surprised it takes 2-3 shots in the sides and backs of these tanks to disable them.  Perhaps my expectations are too high but I was hoping for more from a high velocity shell at 600m.

Although expecting to pull a Michael Wittmann against so many opponents is perhaps a high expectation by itself ;D

I'll have to try the HEAT (cumulative?) round to see if there is a difference.

Don't forget it's a game :)
This time u play for the soviet, another time u play for the german. I.e. some german spg has arm_str=2100 and even more at first ;)
What I like this game that u've always a chance to make adjustment ;)

After some patches, I'm not sure that german tanks had armor piercing shell at the 1941y.

That's what I was telling you Tanker.That's why i remo9ved them form the German tanks ammo complement.I replace them with the equivalent in straight AP. Because they are too light their either bounce or seem to go straight through without making any damage. That's one issue with Steel Fury the objects are too light.

On the other hand the HE shells of the KV are very effective against light armoured panzers like the Panzer IIIs and IVs.And the kV series is about the only series of Soviet tanks that carry a shell complement comparable to the German ones. I remeber playing the stock Gusarovka mission with the KV-1 and I finsished it with 19 German tanks and apcs destroyed and over 100 infantry killed mostly using HE shells.

Hi lockie,
Have tried the patch for Unnamed Hill and it seems to work great. I was able to withstand the German onslaught, advance and help capture the village in my trusty KV-1  ;) The only problem I noticed is my KV-1 (and I do believe the others tanks also) seem to be lacking any markings (slogans or national emblems). I do recall before the patch my KV-1 had no national emblems but did have a slogan on the turret  ??? .

Panzer faust it's very easy to solve.Go to the KV-1 tech_cfg file Open it and check the following entry:

 mslots()
   {
      //Fragment,    Marking,          Size, Rotation, Displacement
      slog,      s_mark_rturr_b, ,      1.1,     0,   0.015;
      slog,      s_mark_lturr_b, ,      1.1,     0,   0.01;
      rhomb,      s_mark_rturr_b, ,      1.2,     0,   0.015;
      rhomb,      s_mark_lturr_b, ,      1.2,     0,   0.01;
      mark,      s_mark_rturr_m, ,       1.0,     0,   0.01;
      mark,      s_mark_lturr_m, ,       1.0,     0,   0.01;
      num,      s_num_xx,   s_num_rf,   1.5,     0,   0.01;
      num,      s_num_xx,   s_num_lf,   1.5,     0,   0.01;
   }
}

If it's got  2 slash // bars ahead of the slog, entries just delete them , save and exit the file and your slogans will be back.

Thanks ol'buddy there was two  // in front of the first slog entry but no // in front of any of the others. I fired up Unnamed Hill and my KV-1 now had one red star on the right turret face (none on the left). Looked at the entry again (just rechecking) and fired the mission up again. This time my KV-1 had no markings whatsoever again but the other KV-1 had a slogan on it. So are markings/slogans and if you do or don't get them on your tank really that random? Also one other question comrade, I noticed your KV-1 tech_cfg mslots entries had a lot of different entries and numerical values then whats in my KV-1 tech_cfg mslots file, is this a frinik special homebrew  ;)

Little do they know, that's Kyth's special homebrewed markings mod. Included in all updates to SPM 1.5  :D

For example:

s_mark_rturr_b = right turret marking, back
s_mark_lturr_b = left turret marking, back
s_mark_rturr_m = right turret marking, middle
s_mark_lturr_m = left turret marking, middle

rhomb = the geometric shape with the unit number
mark = the national marking
slog = the patriotic slogan
num = tank turret number

Hi,

Those slogans and national markings are random. There's an 80% - 90% chance they won't show up.
(By the way, I didn't change those probabilities, they're the originals.)

Historically speaking, I hope you don't think there was some sort of slogan over every Soviet tank. :D Majority of early-war tanks had no markings whatsoever.

Panzi it happens to me all the time, every time there's a new mod my markings just disappear and I have to re-enable them.No idea why.Some files being over written I guess.One simple tip once you have a tech_cfg file which contains all the markingd and chnages that you have made and like just save it into a folder and thus you can use as back-up.

Thanks for all the help guys. Sorry lockie wasn't trying to imply you or anyone was doing something nefarious, just wondered if something crept in unintentionally  :) . Your absolutly spot on Kyth, I did read somewhere long ago that slogans and even national markings were many times not present on Russian armor due to mass production/high losses in the field. Same goes for paint jobs as many Russian tanks got a coat of whatever was available at the plant doing the manufacturing, if it was close enough to mil spec on it went. Wonder why we have not seen a tractor green skin yet?  ;D

Good ideal frinik will have to do this. It's partly my fault as I never pay attention to the JSGME screen when it states xxxx files wants to overwrite xxxx files  :D

The tiger models were all introduced by me, from newest to oldest.  2 of them (the plain yellow and late tiger) currently have historically correct models. The "SS tiger" has the outdated model, textured by Maleshkin (not bad from afar but strange looking in some places if you look close). And the trophy tiger is some of the earliest shit ever.

First it was ripped from RO, but now it's completely new model that  doesn't have anything in common with RO model, except similar UV layout.

Well, If he wanted to name it this way I don't mind. Why - you prolly should ask him in person. :)

Because people who make the models too lazy or don't see much point in adding lods. It's as simple as that.

I'd love to ask Maleshkin but unfortunately I  Can't PM him on the Avia forum since I am not a member and if he is on this forum I don't know under what name!

It's funny because the Panther G from R.O had to be withdrawn from the game yet nobody minded the Tiger I being used for SF????

It's easy to blame the modders but what about  most game companies that make games not optimised to take advantage of multicore processors which createa a drain on cpus and gpus.They share responsibility too.

 Hi Guys, I have heard that some have complained that the mission pack takes too long to download.It's 40 missions and of course it's big; 632 mbs. But it's essentially like a mod. However once you have downloaded the Mission Pack all you need to do is make copies of it.Just right click an dcopy the file and save it in various folders.Then you need not have to download it again and you have lots of copies to extract in reserve.Or you can extract the pack and make copies of the extracted folder which you can paste at will if you have multiple installs. If you have the game on different computers remember there are such things called USB sticks and external hard drives where you can make back-ups of your games, files and mods. Easy to  then copy something from one pc or laptop to another.  Also when complaining about download times let's remember it's a freebie!Other fans/player have involved their own efforts and spare time to give you something for free. So having to put up with 45 minutes or whatever it takes( my own example) ain't much to pay.It's like a restaurant you have to wait for the waiter/waitresse and cook/s to make your meal and serve you and there you have to pay for it. Whereas these mods are free meals!!!!

"Mission pack" updated to the version 2.1.
Mission "Everything, but the bridge" (Sherman M4A3-76) added.
