Title: Mission "Sahara" (M3 Lee)
Post by: lockie on March 16, 2014, 02:09:12 PM
It's time to start a new topic devoted to the new mission "Sahara". This mission will be based on the movie with the same name.
(http://s5.postimg.org/ybpwvidjn/01m.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ybpwvidjn/) (http://s5.postimg.org/k6k3tp4ib/02m.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/k6k3tp4ib/) (http://s5.postimg.org/ab6ga4ykz/m01.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/ab6ga4ykz/)
... They're just like a dame, if you don't feed them, they won't do anything.
Sgt. Joe Gunn [talking about his tank.]

The idea will be the next. There is oasis with desert well, which under protection of the english battlegroup. German troops moves there to re-fill the water and then make a strike to the rear parts of the english army. There is only one tank M3 Lee(unfortunately, Grant is not ready) available for the battle. User receives the order to make support to the troops and starts moving to the defence position. During his way, he will bump into german road patrol or something, or may be not :)
Then battle - holds position and destroy all enemy units. That's in short.
What is planning to be implemented:
- new tank M3 Lee (ready) 22.03.2014
- new destroyable "desert house #01" (ready)16.03.2014
- new destroyable "desert house #02" (ready)30.03.2014

I got such funny picture during testing with "desert well" :D
Well is not fully destroyable, there is foundation remains, but T-60 tried to go over the well and of course, couldn't. Then M26 came to the well. He was in terrible hurry and didn't want to wait in the line, then decided to go over T-60 first  ;D
The crew of the T-60 scared and left the tank.

Palm is a very dangerous barrage for the tank  :o

Destroyable "desert well" finished and a new "desert fence" created.

Here is pre-alpha patch "MarchUpd_2014". It has M3 "Lee" (USA, RKKA) and some other stuff. This patch is a VERY complicated and I always has a mistakes with units, which worked without problems before. So, we need reports to be sure that patch is stable at the current moment. Install it the last in line.
http://www.4shared.com/rar/2kTwf099ce/04_MarchUpd_2014.html

Some words abt what pre-alpha patch has:
- fixed animations of the mgunner(SG-43, Maxim, Vickers, M2HB)
- updated texture for the MG SG-43
- fixed textures for the all jagdpanthers (removed black spots)
- fixed animation for the "eyelash" of the driver hatch for the SU-100 and T-34/85, fixed positions of the markers
- fixed headlight for the SU-76
- adjusted gunsight for the T-60
- fixed MG platoon (germany)
- fixed and re-painted the model `Tiger SS`
- 30% decreased the original size of the corn
- added new destroyable "Desert house #01"
- fixed texture for the M36 cockpit
- fixed p_rotgun size (T-60)
- added new unit Sdkfz2 "Kettenkrad"
- additional fixes applied to SPG M36:
1. Added panorama rotation for commander (upside-down by mouse)
2. Added extra rear parking lights blue color.
3. Fixed CTD of M36 (same model for two variants)
4. Fixed carets (error in the name)
5. Fixed visibility of the MG during the transformatioon from 1LOD to 2LOD.
6. Fixed texture shine, traces
- fixed grenade name "M24x7", bullet for MP-43
- fixed armor map for flora
- added new tree "Palm #02"
- added new destroyable object "Desert well"
- fixed gunsight Stug IIIF,G (cap open/closed)
- added new model "desert_bush #01"
- added new tank M3 Lee(USA, RKKA)
- added new "desert fence #01"
//- added new destroyable "Desert house #02"
//- added new "Desert house-fort #01" equipped with two MG's

PS
Me and will1973 don't know what happen tomorrow. So, let's share what already prepared.

So the new mission for the Lee isn't in it yet?
Also it only has the armor map for the new bush4.
Did you want an armor map for the new palm?

Yes, it needs FebrUpd enabled. `March` is not complete patch, it's a main part of it. Just for testing purposes only. Officially, it wasn't released.

U're welcome! ;)

Nope. It's under progress. Think a couple weeks needs to finish the mission.

Ive made a separate mod for the flora armor. I didn't include, coz just forgot :) Thanks to remind me. I'll include it right now.

Yes, plz do.

PS
Here's 'armor_flora' patch, which will be included into the final release `MarchUpd`.

And here's a draft history text of the mission!  ;) (No need to say that text was created by our best writer forever - General Frinik!)

And there are 19 quotations already prepared to give user a chance to short the the time during mission d/l. Thanks to our war-historian Mr. Woofiedog  8)

Some typos or misspellings in that mission brief if you're interested.

Tobruk vs. Torbuk.

annihilated vs. anihilated

water well vs. waterwell (two separate words)

Of course, I'm! I'd be pleased to get a hand of help with proofreading! This is just draft text.  It's a pure imagination, all words completely made by Frinik's inspiration!
Mission is still under progress. There are many errors with a new units implementation, especially with M3 Lee. It's a very hard tank to release.

Waz up, dude?  ;D
Well, I got a very interesting experience during mission making. As it appeared, user has ability to add several scripts to the one unit!
It does: we have a several differ scripts:
- my_script01
- my_script02
- my_script03
- my_script04
- my_script05
and give the name of script as my_script0 for the unit, i.e.
ger_tnk_01, wer_pantherg, ger_p_01, -1, 2, my_script0, 1, 1, 0.8, 1.0, 1.0, 0x2, wer_14_131_3pz, 0.0;
It means, each time when mission start AI will pick any from the fifth script!
I've already implemented this invention in the mission and suppose users will get a bit of surprise ;)

Mission is going to be finished. Though, I'm not completely satisfied, it should be polished more. The main problem is M3 "Lee". It's a very difficult to take this tank under control, especially, if u have not "Gunner #2" interface. It's a real headache to control the second gun 37mm. There is no information abt shells and MG cartridges :(

Fully agree... a steel tub or large garbage can with about 5 or so bags of crushed ice and a batch of jungle juice, 4-6 large cans of different fruit juices and dark rum, vodka and what ever else is availible at the time, helps out with those long hot patrols in the desert sands!  LoL ;D

There are not many shells and thus more empty spaces. To increase the shell quantity u've to change the next part of the script. I.e.

Code:

It's good!  Only played it once but my tank ate a 105 heat shell in the first moments which killed everyone but the commander so I had to do the entire battle with 1 crew man swapping between stations.  The browning 303s are quite good against fiats at close range and were enough to take out the guns and infantry with the help of the 4pdr.

U was "lucky"  ;D Coz during my testings a 105mm gun almost all the time stuck in the sand or destroyed by my crew.

That's why I decreased the cartridges number to 2100pcs ;) I wanted to force user to watch on the ammo and use MG more frequently to make a challenge. There is another task, which I've never completed - destroy column. But theoretically it's possible, at least I think so :)

PS
To speed up the long way to the "Abandoned village", I recommend to switch to the 3rd person, then press F11, which enables speed up twice.

PS
Would be interesting to see, if someone will manage to finish the mission and make a video fragment abt it!

Is it correct that you can't select the ammo for the 37mm?

Unfortunately, nobody know how to make additional "Gunner interface#2" to provide second gun operating :(
There are two files, which responsible for that:
- data\k42\loc_rus\config\proxy_temp.engcfg
- data\k42\loc_rus\levels\LEVELS\interf\interf.engcfg

Well I couldn't get the commander to have ammo controls, I think tanks are limited to 1 ammo control for a human controler.

But I did fix another problem.
Quote
i_controls:controls()
{

   //звук подсветки
   snd_hilite   =;
   //звук нажатия
   snd_click   =;

   //анимации
   anims()
   {
      //название, спрайты
      con,      con_off, con_on;
   }

   //органы управления
   controls()
   {
      //название, тип, позиция (x,y,z), масштаб, цвет, включение, спрайты, прочие данные
      con_text,   text,      512,    64,    80,    1, 0xffffffff,   true, con, 1, 0xffd0e0e0, 8, 12, , , true;

   }

}// end of i_controls:controls
}// end of console

Change this number to .8 and the text doesn't get cut off the top in 16:9 anymore.

Great work! Should it be included in the Fix Widescreen Bug or release it as standalone patch or include it in the topic A/Q?

Woofiedog, I think u've a problem with jagdpanther gunsight :)

Yes put it in widescreen fix.

Also looks like Woofiedog is missing widescreen fix!

Probably easy to just put the text cut off fix in the FAQ actually

Q: The mission text gets cut off at the top of the screen when I play in wide screen.
A:  Change the scale of this text:
Open:   \Lighthouse Interactive\Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\data\k42\loc_rus\levels\LEVELS\interf\interf.engcfg

Find

Quote
      //название, тип, позиция (x,y,z), масштаб, цвет, включение, спрайты, прочие данные
      con_text,   text,      512,    64,    80,    1, 0xffffffff,   true, con, 1, 0xffd0e0e0, 8, 12, , , true;

Change this 1 to .8 so:

Quote
      //название, тип, позиция (x,y,z), масштаб, цвет, включение, спрайты, прочие данные
      con_text,   text,      512,    64,    80,    .8, 0xffffffff,   true, con, 1, 0xffd0e0e0, 8, 12, , , true;

Hi Flanker15,

Thanks for your widescreen cut-off fix.

I have tried it and it really does fix my screen cut-off.
Now the problem is solved.   :D
