Looking for input. Wink.

Have the thinking cap on again and considering doing another campaign.  In Safari it just started out as a basic concept and trying out differnt things.  It was suppose to have a flow of limited contol of one tank and sort of evolve into control of many elements.  Was thinking player would attack, defend, attack and IF managed resources well could take out the whole map.  Well so far I havent manged that IF.  lol.  Got close but got clobbered by dug in infantry and recoiless rifles towards the end.  Sneaky AI attacked at night, had no idea how many there where.  And I made the damned thing.   Tongue 

So next project I am thinking m60, helment map (my second fav).  Iran VS Iraq.  Limited to one company for Iran.  Thinking 1 tank platoon.  Infantry backed up with recoiless.  And support somewhere in there as well.  Supplies probably as static if I can figure out a good way to do it.  Set up more as just having to worry about your platoon.  1 company in defense Vs 1 mech battalion.  Dropping alot of the tactical side and going more pure tank sim.  I love the tactical side and I love the combos and options that can be done with sabow.

Comments?  Thoughts?  I LIKE INPUT!

Oh geezzzz, i started on this.  Its a snow day and people around here cant seem to drive in snow.  Some moron cut me off which caused me to hit the breaks.  Fun sliding sideways ensued.  But i am awesome, so used the skill, recovered, swearing at that tard muffin all the while.  But desided to stay away from the tard muffins and start a new project. 

We are going retro grade operation and rear guard baby!.  Now i find out if I can make that happen with the ai commands.  Gonna be cover your friendlies while they fall back (ai depending) and dig in.  Punch Iraqi tanks in the nose and make them bleed.  Cover the ground you give in their blood while preserving your force.

Working title, Crescent Moon.......its very cool sight this time of year in the middle east.  When I saw that i understood all the flags and crap about that symbol. 

Gawd i wish the maps where bigger for more tactical maneuver room.

All the basic elements are done.  Got the units in game.  The ai controlled guys are falling back =) (didnt put many of them in there, might make it too easy for player. Had no idea you could set ai tactic flags by turn......  Might go tweek Operation Safari with this new knowledge someday. 

Iraqi forces structure loosly based on warsaw pack/soviet client state organizational structure.  Ie. 10 tank t62 company, 3 tanks per platoon etc.  Reinforced BMP element in the 1st wave. Tanks behind.  A sudo random element, IE, dumped alot of squads of various types in reinforcments so who knows what will show up where. 

Now to test.  Not doing a beta of mission this time.  Got 0 feed back so waste of time.  If anybody wants too.......pm me from forum.

So things to do.  Test, briefings, weather, images, more text issues to fix/modify, and unit tweeks as needed.

WOW, totally under estimated how much force is needed to stop just a couple reinforced recon platoons.  Lost 3 tanks and 1 damaged (got caught out in the open).  Hmmmm this mission is going to need more tanks............ That sudo random element has already bitten me in the arse.  So far the afgan map makes a very good armor on armor map. Enough terrain elevation changes to hide in. 


Wow got totally rolled.........Bmps are very dangerous inside there 73mm gun launcher thing.  Did not even see the full on tank platoons.

Well, gonna have to rebalance everything on Iran side.   Grin

Rebalancing continues......  Currently using m60 4 tank platoon at around 1500 meters on an reverse slope with just the turrets barly sticking out.  Totally dominating.  Been shot at 2x by a t62.   killed I dont know how much stuff.  Ugh now need to rebalance the other way.  BMPs outside there 73mm gun dont really seem to want to use their at3's very often (so far not at all) in this mission.  Thats not good.  Just turn into easy targets.  Thats why I put some BTRs in there.

Ugh dumping everything in mission except the squad structures.  Not happy with what I got.  Just tried breaking down tank and scout platoons into squads.  Make things more dynamic and flexable.  Old school soviet style 3 tank platoons are pretty rigid.  Cant really do anything on a smaller scale well.  Great for uber massive tank waves but lacking flexabllity.  Iran was set up more western in structure and that would be interesting to compare with soviet/warsaw pack/client states structure.    Just wish the maps where wider for the tactical movement in map.......I guess thats why there APOS.   Grin

MUCH more promising now that I've reworked stuff.  Should go recon/counter recon, then contact at various places in with differnet force values, probably going to have to give alot of ground while wearing attacking force down, and then hopefully stop attacking force before running out of map  Grin.  Breaking up full platoons on Iran side was the way to go.  Defending with a full tank platoon in a good spot you could totally wipe out a MUCH larger force without worrying about effective counter fire.  But thats how it goes real world too, but was way too easy for game land before.  Just not happy about m113's not shooting at anything and indestructable hinds =(.

3 to 1 attacking ratio on open ground not enough for game land tank on tank fight.  Funny that.  No wonder the soviets went with 50000 damned tanks during the cold war.  To take out natos 12000 -18000 tanks on defense you could loose 40000 tanks and still have plenty to occupy all of Europe.  Then the nukes would fall if they had not already and guys in leather jackets would be total bastards in Aussie land.   Grin

Having difficulty with time for testing.  Keep starting camp. then finding something wrong and changing it.  If someone is willing to help with testing before I release it pls message me on this forum.  Just need feed back on whats right/wrong.  Would help alot.

Mission is totally starting to make me smile now.   Grin  hopefully have it done by weekend.  you are gonna have to really think if you are gonna come out of this mission with a victory.  One small mistake and you will really pay for it. 

Got shot at with an at3 from a bmp1.........watched the missle come in at me and it just missed.   Grin

Looks like you are not going to have to baby sit your allies ai (unless you want too).  They dont always do the smartest things but they can be effect against the bmp hoard.  1 m40 took out 4 bmp/btr before they had arty called on them.   Cry

Well made the mini mod adding in vary minor unit changes, game is not picking it up  Cry  Went wrong somewhere..........

Ah figured out where I screwed up on mini mod......always the little things that mess you up bad.

Mini mod done, might add more later.  Added units;

Holy bacon bits.  Had a totally brutal night battle in mission.  Tryed to make a stand before i probably should have.  Sneeky ai kept 2 platoons in reserve, thought the fighting was done (which was way brutal) then 2 more platoons show up the last 20 minutes.  Of course I had kept a much smaller reserve of 3 tanks which where low on ammo.  Commited them, they shot the rest of their ammo, one took damage, pulled em back.  Commited 8 m60's all but 2 took serious damage, most ran out of ammo, ended loosing 3 tanks and alot of defending infantry.  They took some ground but burning everything everywhere.  After battle had to abandon position and pull back to rearm,refuel, and repair.  Hope you know your tactics, if not your gonna get rolled.  Starting to run out of map.  Killed a ton of stuff but they are grinding me down. 

buildings and the new iran AT section I made are very useful.  Hopefully m113 issues get worked out, they could deal with infantry and light armor while tanks do what they do.

Well this mission looks almost good to go.  A few unit tweaks, add in all the text, graphics, and change point values.  Should be ready by 27th of jan for english.  Ah little longer on Russian.......................if I can find someone to compile.

Added more units to the mini mode.......  Grin  A few more elements to mission like static supply for iran, mobile supply to iraq, concripts for iran.  M113 unit I created without infantry (just crew) will use there .50 now so long as they dont get shot at...........then they button up.  BUT after i upped skill alot of times they will unbutton and start shooting again in a few seconds.  BUT.........they cant seem to shoot straight and miss everything most of the time.  Still dont engage light armor but eh better. 

Mission and mini mod will install with addpack file this time (like patch), but no exe.  Just come zipped with folder structure.  Just have to use updater in game.   Grin
