Oh ya, the netting would be via texture and normal maps.  You could model it but would end up with a 4000 triangle helmet.  That muliplied by 60 -70 infantry = bad.  LOL.  Maybe in 5 years from now  Grin

If I where to do another gun it would be the FN49 battle rifle.  Nice weapon, with old world charm.  AND I have never seen one in any game.   Grin  OH and Eygpt used them in 7.92mm I believe.  OR an ak74.  What the heck are Russians doing running around with akm's in Afganistan?  Ok I know some units where certainly still using them, but would not most guys be running around with ak74's?  Better weapon, not as good a round as akm....at least in my view.  Still the better accuracy of the 5.45 round is nice.  OH crap I degress again.   Roll Eyes

I have it scaled correct in game now.  Just finish textures and LOD's.  Just moving slow on this one.  I think I do need a day of doing something other than messing with sabow.   Tongue  Been working on helemt for 30 then playing staker complete mod for 90....etc, etc.   Grin  Probably be totally done tomorrow.

Vlad served a couple years in Afganistan FB (I do believe in the same timeframe as the campaign in SABoW).
Cheers

P.S. Helmet is looking really good  Smiley

Well it appears the AKM and ak47 use the same texture.  Not that most people would notice the difference.  Time constates, budgets, and the next to no one will notice influences any project.  But what can I say.......I want to see ak74 and aksu on the soviet side Cheesy  LoL, really not important........but I can't help myself.

Normally I would agree FB but Vlad had alot to do with the Afganistan campaign being in SABoW to begin with. I remember talking with him at length before SABoW was first publically announced and when he told me about the Afganistan campaign I was kinda scratching my head as Afganistan just doesn't jump out to me as a "armored conflict" like the other campaigns in SABoW. But if I remember correctly this is his second game on Afganistan so it holds a special place for him being he served there. Knowing that if I was a programmer on his team I don't know if it would be wise to try and slip one past him  Cheesy

Honestly, I really think the general public does not have a clue about how modern armored vehicles are employed/used.  Not knocking anyone here, but until you have done the job and seen what in game land looks "unfun" you probably will not understand.  The reason I started my playable m113 project was that apc's with just an heavy MG can greatly influence a battle.  The other reason m113 was simply I have been around them, in them and sort of know whats right.  The m2HB was my baby in my little crap tastic war and I know what that thing can do.  But joe soldier does not get to pick their equipment.  My unit was equiped with M3 bradleys and hmmwv's state side.  When deployed it was m1117, m1151, max pro mwrap and RG33.  Done of that crap was on the mtoe of my unit.  But I did walk away from all that with a pretty healthy respect for the less sexy vehicles.

I feel you bro. I haven't gotten to do the shooting yet, but I definitely know the feeling of watching some bumbling idiot on TV going on about how much he supports the troops and oh how bad their lives are and the typical political bullshit. I've been a 2nd hand USAF member my entire life (18 years Grin ), and I don't think anyone has ever thanked my mom or my sisters for the shit they've endured as part of my dad defending his country. Even better, I love the geniuses who go around thinking that military families don't give as much as the serving military member, which is a flat out lie. TBH, I'd rather be getting shot at than enduring months of nothing but fear.

On a separate note though, There are a few really good modern armored tactics manuals floating around on the internet. I wonder if any would apply to SABOW?
