unable to install Kharkov 1943 patches

I just purchased UK versions for both Kharkov 1943 and operation star. For the moment I just installed Kharkov, cd rom version is 5.15 and works fine. OS is Win8. If I want to install either 5.16 or 5.17 I have a message "The game is not installed. Unable to update".

The game is installed in "E:\windows\Programs\Achtung Panzer - Kharkov 1943"

Keep in mind that Kharkov 1943 is out of support. Verify the install path, or maybe Win8 blocks something.

Thought I'd give this a try in a win 8.1 x64 VM & it installed & updated OK to 5.17.
I didn't use the default install path, & I made sure the updates looked at the correct dir. I installed 5.16 before going to 5.17.
Game updates & runs OK for me in this test.

Yes this sounds like the old issue of windows being daft and not allowing patches to apply. 

Try this....

COpy the entire directory OR reinstall OUT of programs folder.  Since i fist encountered this issue I have always installed direct under C or my E drives.  OUT of programs folder.  Since this never an issue again.  Still do not understand why this happens, but seems to be totally a windows 64 bit issue?  I can not remember if I had problems with K43 and my old 32bit vista laptop.  I dont think I did. 

K43 is a solid game.  If it takes to you give APOS a try.    Its K43 on crack better.  And k43 is good.  How many late nights with k43 fighting half tracks =)
