I just purchased this sim through Amazon Digital Download and am excited, as are my sons, to get this working. After reading other threads on this topic I did not see a similar problem except that I see a notification that my system does not meet minimum requirements which I did read about in another thread.. When I start the first mission, or tutorial, my screen is all black and only the scenery through the driver's slit is visible but only in silhouette. I can see the silhouette of a tank with 2 crewmembers on it with a white sky. From there the screen starts to bleed white starting at the edges and filling everything in with white after a few seconds. It almost seems like an effect in the sim like being in a dark room and then going outside where the light is too bright till your eyes adjust. Switching to the external view shows only silhouettes as well. As the tank in front of me drives off, smoke or dust clouds are visible as well. I have already tried unchecking desktop resolution and turned the graphics settings down. I am using Win7 64 bit Ultimate, CPU is a quad core QX7600, Striker Extreme Mobo, GTX680 GPU with latest drivers, 6Gigs ram.

After trying a few different settings I am able to see the inside of the tank and scenery but only in VGA resolution. No matter what resolution I choose, or what options, it is always low res 640x480.

Where is the text ".ini" file located that I might make some graphics changes manually with notepad?

Lots of similar problems reported with the white thingy stuff . Turn off AA in your Nvidia settings for steel fury and it should work!

My rig is almost simular... and have most of the game settings at max. See below my settings... and also checkout this thread page for 16:9 setting use this. Thanks for the help. I recognize your nick from the old Il2 forums. I will take a look at your settings and see what happens. I already changed the config aspect to 1.777777. Unlike the Il2 config, the confing in SF has a lot of garbled text in it. Is this normal? Here is an example from my config file...
//îïèñàíèå è êîíôèãóðàöèÿ âèäåîàäàïòåðà i_render:render() { //àäàïòåð adapter = 0; //ðàçðåøåíèå, ÷àñòîòà, ðåæèì bb_wid = 1920; bb_hei = 1200; bb_freq = 60; bb_fmt = 22; //ðåæèì áóôåðà ãëóáèíû depth_buffer = 75; //îáðàáîòêà âåðøèí vertex_processing = 1; //ãàììà (0.0 - inf def 1.0) gamma = 1.000000; //ÿðêîñòü (-1.0:1.0 def 0.0) bright = 0.500000; //êîíòðàñò(0.0:1.0 def 1.0) contrast = 1.000000; //àíòèàëèàñèíã (òèï, êà÷åñòâî) aa_type = 0; aa_qual = 0; //óðîâåíü àíèçîòðîïèè aniso = 0.000000; //ïðîïîðöèè ýêðàíà (4/3, 16/9, 16/1, 5/4) aspect = 1.77777777; //îêîííûé ðåæèì windowed = 0;

^This.^ For me making a profile within the nVid settings (right clicking on empty desktop space) pointing to the desktop short cut only works, not the executable in the game directory as I would normally do. Maybe there should be a "sticky" only pertaining to new players graphical adjustments needed to play SF as there's an win7 sticky.

The garbled text is actually Russian but not rendered properly... Don't forget to uncheck the " Use Desktop Resolution " box in your in game video settings. Helps improve fps dramatically ( I suspect it turns the V sync off) without dramatically impacting the image quality... Discount the message about not having enough video memory; it affects practically only Nvidia gpus ( mine (GTX560M) on a laptop is not affected somehow because I have dual graphics with an intel HD4000) rather than ATI( may be because of different shaders architecture) .It seems the game cannot detect your card. Happy to see a new generation of payers taking over the role of mentoring/advising on graphics issues

Thanks so much! I was going to ask for your Nvidia settings. I never used "Threaded Optimization" as I found it really decreased the performance. I have it on per your advice and will see how it runs. Why don't I have grass in game? I have tried several things but still no grass. I want to make this sim look as pretty as possible. So far my youngest son and I are having a blast with this! Retirement is good overall.

Choctawn (isn't that the name of an Indian tribe from the Southern US , Florida or Louisiana???) open your config file and check the plantman paragraph. It should read like this:
/ìåíåäæåð ðàñòèòåëüíîñòè i_plantman:plantman() { //òðèìèíã ðàñòèòåëüíîñòè (0 - âûêë, 1 - óäàëèòü ÷àñòü ðàñòèòåëüíîñòè) flora_trim = 0.000000; //àäàïòèâíûé âûáîð ëîä óðîâíÿ ðàñòèòåëüíîñòè (0 - âûêë, 1 - ìàêñèìàëüíàÿ ñêîðîñòü) adapt_ls = 0.500000; //òðèìèíã ðàñòèòåëüíîñòè (0 - âûêë, 1 - óäàëèòü ÷àñòü ðàñòèòåëüíîñòè) flora_trime = 0.500000;
}// end of i_plantman:plantman

You are correct about the Choctaws being a tribe from that area. That was the code name of one my rifle companies in the Army. I will try your suggestion in the config. Thanks.
