So how do range the F2 sight?  Back last time I played it had the normal German sight with the ring of numbers round the edge for range now they're gone.  I've installed all the patch/mods for the NTA in the correct order.

Also can I switch the smoke back to the old style, which folder do I remove?  I like that you made it much taller but it looks dumb how it flows straight up with no wind effect.

It's possible.
Open by notepad the next file:
data\k42\loc_rus\levels\levels\common\common_res.engcfg
find the entry:
Code:
//frinik adj smoke_fl
smoke_fl,1,16,2.7, 12,1,0.5,0,7.5,0.4,1.1,0,smk_sphere0,0x00000002,sh_ablendd,0xff4D4D45,0x004D4D45,1,5;

replace it on
Code:
smoke_fl,1,8,0.7,5,1,0.5,0,1.5,0.2,1,0,smk_sphere0,0x00000002,sh_ablendd,0xff4D4D45,0x004D4D45,1,5;

It can also be the widescreen patch you need!

Uh...What do you think happens to any smoke when theres no breeze? your smoke flows straight up not cause it,s dumb but simply because of physics. Now if you want your smoke to curl up and twist all you need yo do is open the chosen mission through the mission editor and using the weather tab you can increase or decrease the wind speed which is set at default value of 5 kliks per hour.In the common res folder there's no possibility to adjust it unfortunately.

Yep that got it thanks!

I played a mission with more wind (all the missions I played before didn't have wind by chance) and yep it moves from the wind buuuuuttt it moves less than the fire so the fire gets blown off angle of the smoke.  Might also make it look better in lighter wind.

Pic:  Smoke should move the same amount as the fire

Wind in SF it's kind of a candy Smiley It doesn't effect the trees, but effects the shell trajectory. I may say that approximately two years after the game released, nobody knew that wind existed in the game, until Kyth discovered it  8)

PS
I see the mission with `Pershing`. And did u manage to save general Frinikenko?  Wink Cheesy

No Frinikenko will have to wait for a while longer, the Flak88 managed to put a shell between my tracks into the ammo with its first shot after I crested the hill.

So can the amount the wind blows the smoke pillar be altered to match the amount the wind blows fire or is it beyond alteration?

What are the values for
//frinik adj smoke_fl
smoke_fl,1,16,2.7, 12,1,0.5,0,7.5,0.4,1.1,0,smk_sphere0,0x00000002,sh_ablendd,0xff4D4D45,0x004D4D45,1,5;
?
I'll see if I can't make it look better without dumping it completely.

I've no idea Smiley Frinik adjusted all parameters of the smoke. So, he is the one really responsible Cheesy

I think it's possible. U've to change a couple parameters of the wind in the mission. So, u need start the "Mission Editor".
1. Unpack and place the bat files from this folder into the root game, then double click 0_missn_editor.bat

2. Pick up mission save_gen_m26 and press apply

3. After mission downloaded, go to the tab "weather"

4. Scroll down to the next tabs:
- wind speed
- wind gustiness

These value should be equal. Let's set up:
wind speed = 7
wind gustiness = 6

5. Scroll up, press blue circle(install mission parameters), then press "save"(save mission parameters). Exit.

Re-start the mission and have a look Wink Or u may watch on the units in the mission editor.

Lockie explained it more in details than I did!Thanks Lockie!

That being said Flanker goiing back to the original smoke /fire value ain't gonna solve your issue.Because all you'll have are a smaller( and in my opinion less realistic plume of smoke and shorter flames)with the same absence of wind and a lack of twisting curling smoke/flame effect...

What Lockie and I said re t adjusting the wind speed means it has to be done to each and every mission individually.It doesn't apply universally. I spent 15 months checking through trial and errors all the effects options in the common res, like you looking for wind gusts that would allow the smoke and flame to look more natural but I didn't find any.It simply wasn't coded into the game...As Lockie said wind is pure candy in SF more an afterthought really.

I'm starting to like then new smoke, seeing it rise up behind a hill or forest.

This is a better explanation of what I want to tweak in picture form.

Move blue line smoke to match red line fire.
