I think the first IDF one is in ~1970 and the second with the M1919 is post 1954 - 1967 with the old style webbing. All my IDF books are back home so I'm just going off memory here but I think they had British MkIII style helmets until the early 50's and then they switched to the M1 style until after 1976 or something.

Pretty sure they went with the M1 style way earlier that the 70's.  Although I am no hat expert!

I really like what sabow and gtos do.  But man!  I am so annoyed with the 1km squares in sabow!  I dont know what would be better.  I just know that with tanks with 10x power scopes its not so great when fighting in 1km squares.

LOL... I forgot the rest of what I was thinking.  I wonder how this will work with the little jeeps.  Jeeps VS Brdm2 and btr60 sort of insanity.  Cheesy Which at least in my AI tests in GTOS works WAY better than I expected.  Like WAY better. Its actually a viable human usable fighting vehicle with the .50 cal. And being REALLY careful.  Was expecting the m38a1c (105mm recoiless rifle) to be the MAIN human usable jeep.  Now...I think not so much.

And I hope to be able to show off the HIGH poly jeep dash soon.  -textures.  Taking longer than I thought.  Its always the sifting threw pictures looking for details!  Last night was probably 3 hours of looking for photos of M38a1 gauges.  Only to realize that there is no 1 standard for that.  Many of the ones running  around today seem to be using stuff from the M151.  Which without knowing is what I made textures for.  UGH.   And i don't want to redo that to the earlier style.  See what you learn doing this kind of crap!  And still trying to find legible pics of the various info plates that this thing has a lot of.  IF you pick the truck commander seat...you need something to do.  Ya read info plates!  And play with binoculars.

BRING BACK MARKERS

I think you'd have to be a wee bit nuts to go stalking armored cars with a jeep, even with a .50 cal mg.

Yet this is exactly what was expected of US Army scouts to go do.  Well against other scouts in things like BRDM's. A small vehicle like a jeep has some advantages.  Its vary small with a small foot print.  It can hide itself vary easy.  A 12.7mm is fully able to kill light armor quite fast.   BUT the big down side.  With no armor infantry are extremely dangerous.  but against light armored cars, both can kill each other right quick.

And it has not really changed.  Light scouts in teh US army still get HMWWV's with M2's and MK19's.  Although now there are armored ones of course.  But they get stuck easier off road and can not go quite as fast.  Some of the CRAZY things you can do in an M1025 will brake something like an m1151 in short order.   Have a bit O  experience with those 2.

BRING BACK MARKERS

This has been very interesting.  I never realized how vulnerable a BDRM was to .50 cal fire.

Knew a guy that killed a BMP-1 in gulf war 1 with a M2hb.  And according to the Army it can kill BMp1 and 2.  BMP3 is unknown but probably not.  Considering what the US Army is sticking on the side of their light vehicles the past 10 years, I think the days of heavy machine guns being able to kill most if not all light armor are over.  But keep in mind, the .50 cal round was designed to kill 1920 era tanks.  Which rarely had more than 15mm of armor.  A BRDM-2 with like 8mm is toast.

Brdm-2 is a good vehicle.  Well was a good vehicle.  It makes a good scout car.  Its small, it swims, its protected from small arms and shell splinters, its somewhat small, and it has good firepower with its 14.5mm and 7.62mm machine guns.  Ya, its better than a jeep with a .50.  LOL.  But it can be killed by that too.

Wanted to make from scratch and also be able to throw normal maps to show the etched effect.  Who would have thought making the info plates would take so long..  I did not.  Actually everything on the dash is taking longer than I thought.  LOL.

The high ploy dash sitting in the LOD 1.2 =) m38a1.  New dash is a lot better and its still missing needles for gauges, glass for gauges, and final textures.  No spec or normal maps.  No weathering yet.

Now from here its add in detail parts that will only show if your IN the jeep.  This is keep poly count as low as possible.  I would rather have 20 jeeps on my screen than 1 high poly one for the same cost.  So need to get teh steering wheel less lame.  Add in the cable that connects to the wind shield wipers.  Make all the transmission gear sifters look less bad.  Oh and make LOD1 for real now for external model.   Be doing this until I am happy that it looks good from driver and TC seats.  Then the same thing will happen with the .50 cal.  I want working sights.  500-2000 yard range...like I did in the Army damnit!
