Does how much the dotted line (the projectile) is above the solid line (the armor) matter?

I mean that there is always random effects and armor imperfections and prior damage.  So, does being further above the crossing point increase your chances of penetration?

Memory is fuzzy here.  But the graph shows penetration at 30 degrees or something like that.  More is always better, but a glancing blow can always be deflected at large angles.  So in theory, and you do see this time to time, a round will slice threw armor when the round is below the curve on the graph if it hits at a perpendicular angle or even if it causes spalling from a non-penetrating  hit.

That graph is useful but only a guide and most certainly does not tell the whole story.
