OPERATION VICTORY
First major Iranian counteroffensive named Operation "Nasr" (Victory) in Khuzestan region in January 1981. The main role in the operation was assigned to the 16 and 92ArmBde units. Also, IRGC and militia units were brought to participate in the operation.
In 1980, at the beginning of the war, the Iraqis main efforts focused on capturing of Khuzestan - the main oil-producing region of Iran. They managed to take control of a significant territory in this region, a large port and refinery center Abadan was also besieged. However, the protracted battle for Khorramshahr and Susangerd cities led to the fact that the Iraqis were no longer able to capture the two next major Iranian cities - Dizful and Ahvaz, but only besieged them. Destruction of a major Iraqi group between Ahvaz and Susangerd became the main goal of the first major Iranian counteroffensive named Operation "Nasr" (Victory). The main role in the operation was assigned to the 16 and 92ArmBde units. Also, IRGC and militia units were brought to participate in the operation.

LEOPARD'S LEAP
Military clash between the Angolan army and SADF/SWATF during the Bush War in 1987. A battlegroup of the 32nd SADF and 101st SWATF battalions ambushes the forward elements of the Angolan 21st brigade, along with the first combat use of the Ratel ZT3 ATGM.
The 21st FAPLA MRBde was moving from Cuito-Cuanavale to the south-east towards r.Lomba. Reaching the north bank of the river, Bde had to cross it. And then continue the offensive together with the 47th Bde in the direction of Mavinga town, where a runway was located, which would allow the Angolan air force to support further attack on Jamba, the UNITA headquarters. The 21st MRBde approached r.Lomba from the north. The engineering units of the brigade made a pontoon bridge across the river, which allowed them to transfer heavy vehicles and weapons to the south bank and continue the offensive to Mavinga. But the Angolan forces clashed with the SADF, which began combat operations in support of UNITA, in the area of the crossing. This was the first major battle of Operation Moduler!

THE DAY OF THE OLIFANT
Military clash between Angolans and SADF during Bush War in 1987. Joint attack of two SADF battlegroups on the strong point of the Angolan army near the highway on Cuito-Cuanavale.
The FAPLA offensive was halted at the line of r.Lomba, where SA forces, together with UNITA, defeated the 47th and caused significant damage to the 21st and 59th FAPLA brigades. In the beginning of November 1987, SA and UNITA launched a series of attacks on FAPLA brigades retreating to Cuito Cuanavale. The 16th brigade remained the most battle-worthy of them, it took defense at the outlet of r.Shambinga. On November 9, battlegroups "Alpha" (61 mech.bn and an UNITA battalion) and "Charlie" (62 Mech.Bn., 4 Inf Bn, 32 Light Inf Bn, an UNITA battalion) began a joint attack. Also, a squadron of the "Olifant" Mk.IA tanks was transferred to the combat area, and was allocated to 62 Mech.Bn.

OPERATION MODULER
Military clash between Angolans and SADF during Bush War in 1987. On dawn of October 3, the SADF tactical groups and UNITA forces launched an attack on Angolan 47th Brigade.
In the 1987, the Angolan (FAPLA) battle plan was direct: forces would move from Cuito Cuanavale to the South and South-East towards the Lomba river, cross it and occupy the town Mavinga. Mavinga was important because of its airstrip, which would enable the AAF to support a further phase of the offensive, an advance to Jamba, UNITA’s HQ. Once Jamba fell, the expectation was UNITA would be finished.
Over the years, South Africa gave military aid to UNITA, as this movement occupied the South-East corner of Angola and prevented SWAPO guerrillas from entering the Caprivi and Okavango territories in Namibia. In 1987 the SADF sent 20th SA Brigade under the command of Colonel Deon Ferreira to support UNITA. It comprised 61st Mechanized Battalion Group, two motorised infantry companies from 32nd Battalion and AT squadron, as well as two motorised infantry companies from 101st Battalion. There were also three artillery batteries. The whole force was 2609 men strong. In addition, there were an unknown number (several thousand) of UNITA fighters alongside the SA.
For the 1987 offensive, FAPLA employed a total of 8 brigades. Four acted as the garrison and escort, the other four formed the hammer fist of the offensive. This force comprised about 6000 men and 80 tanks, plus artillery, augmented with air support. 47th Brigade being the strongest of the four attacker FAPLA brigades on the front line. 47th and 59th FAPLA Brigades advanced in a pincer movement: while 47th rounded the western source of the Lomba river and moved eastwards along the southern shore, 59th moved in conjunction with 47th on the northern side. 47th and 59th Brigades were collaborating in the construction of a TMM bridge just east of the confluence of the Lomba and Cuzizi rivers.
October 3, 1987, between 8:00-9:00, the SADF forces launched an attack on 47th Brigade.

TIELIEKETI INCIDENT
Military incident between China and Soviet Union during Sino-Soviet split in 1969. On August 13 night, the Chinese covertly concentrated groups of soldiers near the border opposite the disputed area.
In the summer of 1969 the situation worsened significantly in the Kazakhstan sector of the Soviet-Chinese border, defended by the Uch-Aral border guard detachment (near Dzhungar Gates area). On August 12, border guards at observation posts of the "Rodnikovaya" and "Zhalanashkol" outposts (BOPs) spotted movement of individual groups of PLA soldiers on the Chinese side of the border. General-Lieutenant Merkulov, the Chief of the Eastern border guard district, suggested the Chinese side to have a meeting to discuss the situation, but there was no answer.
On August 13 night, using favorable terrain, the Chinese covertly concentrated a group of up to 30 soldiers on their territory near the border opposite ht. "Kamennaya". Two more groups of 30 people each were stationed on the flanks of the disputed area: one - opposite 39th, and the other - opposite 40th border marks, and the reserve group of up to 60 people - at the BOP "Terekty".
