How do I get a squad to take cover along or behind a linear feature eg like a row of trees on the side of a road?

Especially, how do I get a squad to form a line in buildings along one side of a road?  If I give them a defend order, they seem to occupy buildings on both sides of the road which usually means half the squad can't shoot in the direction the enemy is coming from.

Is it possible to have some visual indication of when a squad has been told to hold fire?

How do I get a squad in line to change the direction it's facing without moving from it's current location (for example to rotate 90 degrees without going anywhere)?

Thanks

Press RMB and _stretch line_ to need defend/fire direction, or set firearc

Yes it have blinking squad/units icons

Move order with base  point approx in center of the squad and hold RMB and stretch line to need direction.
