Is this a captured German APC or a bug?

Voidhunger,
Its a captured APC, seen a couple myself.
In APK43 you used to get captured PanzerIII's and IV's and Pak75's, havnt come across any of those yet though.
I have noticed it seems the more times you play the game it evolves, and ive come across different units each time i complete a campaign and start again.

Yes, in some operations for the Red Army captured German vehicles available. For example APCs or AT guns Pak-40. This is done where there are mentions in memoirs of veterans of the fact that it used.

Is this a scripted event, or do you actually grab abandoned guns/apcs that are lying around after a battle? Is there a good way to capture a gun/apc?

Initially, the trophies are in reserves or in active squads of the platoon. But this may vary slightly from operation to operation.
No trophies in battle right there and never will.
