Can the devs comment on any plans for development of SteelArmor?
I just bought Op Star in the sale and it's the same engine but is massively more developed than SteelArmor.
The maps in OpStar are way more interesting, with such wonderful things as hills and big buildings (can we port these maps over to SteelArmor? ).
Then there's this:

None of the tanks in SteelArmor have Passive IR sights but the engine can do full realistic IR imaging with proper heat maps on the right spots.
It's effectively set up to model every possible armored conflict since WW2 just lacks the units and maps to do it.

edit: Operation Star is really good BTW one of the best looking and playing RTS I've seen in a while.
Also the Passive IR graphics in the engine are more realistic than any other game on the market.

Just give it a little more time. I even havent got the game yet so i can mod it if i learn how to. And also the russian guys at the russian forums do release quality mods pretty often for lots of games. Give this a month atleast and there is porbably a few mods coming Tongue

Well keep in mind operation star has had alot more time to mature.  Dont forget K43 came first then Operation Star which build upon it.  I must admit the thought of porting over maps from operation star has occured to me as well.  To bring them up to where BOW is with objects might take a bit of work.  Or just swap out all the plants and objects with others.  Assuming that is even an issue.

I do feel that many of the maps (er polygons) are a little dry.  Not suprising really.  Im sure they didnt go to Angola or the Middle east to do research for their project.   Wink.....unlike k43 and operation star.

We wish to continue our work, but it's mostly depends on publisher. For now we don't have enough resources to develop both lines of games ( sim and wargame ) at our own.

Landscapes are taken from google earth, so in general they correspond to real ones.

It's not exactly IR. It's faster thermal vision. Only modern tanks have devices like that.

Thanks

Passive IR is the same as thermal, so I meant that if a modern tank is put in the engine can already do thermal scopes with no extra work.

I'm happy with what the sim is at them moment so it's ok if you don't have the resources to do more.

the current ir works like a spotlight. if you go close to trees and hills, you'll see the spotlight. if you want to model thermal, the gamma of the entire world has to be increased. i don't know how effective it will be to switch from thermal view to normal view. it might take a few seconds for the world to "light up" because it is a real time process.

Just cause everyone is getting all technical  Wink.  Getting in my way back machine from high school......  Infrared spectrum covers everything from near IR (just beyond human visiable range, many animals and insects see in this range) to far IR (heat, some snakes can see in this range).  The IR spectrum is quite a big larger than the human visable range we see in.

SO;

Active IR is just a spotlight beyond visable spectum with a filter to the human eye to see it.  Been used since the end of ww2.

Far IR is heat, yes the modern thermal sight.  Been used since the 80's on some western tanks and ifv's.

Thank you for letting me play geek.

One last thing, dont get any of this confussed with light amplification stuff.  However often times they will be able to pick up IR spotlights, and some have "IR" illuminators.  Or you could play with you remote control from your tv.
