Heh heh Glad it's recognizable. Don't be fooled by the stubby length of the 'gun', that's just the part of the barrel that can be seen from inside. (Note that the wheels and engine compartment are also not visible.) Just to reassure you guys that I'm doing it 'in-scale' and not letting my imagination run wild

Hi everyone, Just to let you know I'm still plugging away at this: By the way, it's not a BT-5 cockpit

Hi everybody, Something I uncovered in my 'research' about the KV cockpit. Did you know that the tank Commander doubled as the Loader as well? The third man in the turret did duty as the Assistant Driver. Apparently the act of driving the tank was uncommonly strenuous, so the regular Driver needed frequent breaks. Anyway the Assistant Driver manned the rear machine-gun. Trying to replicate all that might be a little awkward for gameplay, so I configured the "Assistant Driver" as the one to do the loading (with the appropriate animations). The Commander will now be sitting behind the Gunner and Loader, and from time to time he'll pop out the hatch to take a look around. He'll also control the 2nd periscope. I hope you all don't mind,

Not only the KV had that problem most early Soviet tanks including the T34/76 had the same problem; cramped turrets which forced the commander to double as aloader. This would explain why , despite having tanks that were more thickly armoured and had better firepower than contemporary German tanks, the Soviets kept being outclassed by the PanzerWaffe.

But umm, didn't the commander double as the gunner in the T-34, with a loader in the turret as well?

You might have been thinking of French tanks. I believe in most of the pre-WW2 french vehicles, the tank commander did the loading

Hi everyone, just back from the doghouse. There's also a practical reason I assigned the loading role to the 'Assistant Driver'. In the game, it appears that you can't assign targets and movement orders from the Loader's screen. That would sort of kill the immersion for any aspiring tank commanders out there. So, to keep things nice and playable, the Commander will now stick to commander-type activities like calling out targets, movement orders and platoon commands. The grunt-work will be assigned to the 3rd man in the turret, ie. the 'Assistant Driver / Machinegunner'.
