Title: Penetration Diagram? Post by: MarkShot on September 28, 2015, 07:11:50 AM Does how much the dotted line (the projectile) is above the solid line (the armor) matter?
I mean that there is always random effects and armor imperfections and prior damage. So, does being further above the crossing point increase your chances of penetration? Thanks! Title: Re: Penetration Diagram? Post by: Flashburn on September 28, 2015, 05:01:39 PM Memory is fuzzy here. But the graph shows penetration at 30 degrees or something like that. More is always better, but a glancing blow can always be deflected at large angles. So in theory, and you do see this time to time, a round will slice threw armor when the round is below the curve on the graph if it hits at a perpendicular angle or even if it causes spalling from a non-penetrating hit.
That graph is useful but only a guide and most certainly does not tell the whole story. |
