Title: Stug mission
Post by: marcel1980 on April 12, 2011, 07:50:07 AM
Anyone else noticed that when playing the Stug missions - don't recall the name now, but its a defensive mission against many russian tanks and you play with the grey camouflage i think its Stug III ? (Im not that good at exact markings of the vehicle ;) ) The Stug seems to have great problems traveling up the hill. Was this really so bad? In some moments the vehicle stoped and slided a bit downhill. Was quite frustrating but then i dont know what was the engine inside and what it could handle but it seemed as underpowered.

I do recall it was a pretty steep hill - you know, you could try driving around it  :)

Yes I know. It's one of the 3 Stug C/D missions which pits poor, undergunned early Stugs against T34/76 and 85 and Kv1s.Itès the one with the Krasny Gigant( I think itès called Bab Dolina) map.You have to go uphill all the way to the village to defnd it against on onslaught of Soviet tanks and infantr. All you ahve are those poor strugs and some Pak35 or 38 and a handful of infantry,

I downoaded one mission from the russian forum with custom terrain for smolensk and it was awesome. You are driving a KV-1 and have to breakthrough a road full of germans (tanks, self-propelled guns, infantry, etc...) It was intense. I recommend it. I translated the txt (if somebody is interested)

Staroselo, old village; right? Yeah I have it. A lone Rambo KV1 with a few Paks defends a village against a German onslaught. It was made back in 2009. I have it.I modified it and now I have it as a Panzer IV with a few Paks defending the village against a Soviet tank and infantry assault. This a Steel Panzer 1.4 mod mission.

All the SP 1.4 missions are included in SP 1.5

It's not a SP 1.4 mission. It does have a custom polypack (the same than hurry up Kubelvagen). There is a night version and a day version. I'm not sure but i think this is the mission/polypack that i downloaded:

It might be a good idea to do translations for the Russian-language missions - some of the in-game messages and alerts can be quite useful.
I did one for the 'Battle for Sidi Rezegh' mission in the Desert Mod download,

I did a full english conversion (mission and history txt files) and added a few things (the possibility of playing the mission with a T-28 and a T-38 - the others units that are present in the player's division - 3 missions instead of one). I saw you are a member of the russian forum, you could ask to deviator if i'm allowed to post the translation and i will be pleased to do it.

What does Lockie think about the idea?

Title: Re: Stug mission

Yes I saw the download and I remember reading the post. It´s the same mission originally made by Stone 2009 with its own polypack.

It´s remake with some variants. The original was not bad although the premises , a lone tank with a handful of anti tank guns and infantry against overwhelming odds sounds too Holywoodish to me....

Not all usermade misisions made for SP 1.4 are included with Beta 1.5. I have have my SP 1.4 installation s and many have not been included in Beta 1.5. Igor Japan and Xream_05 come to mind for example. Some of the original 1.4 single and campaign missions have been changed or amended considerably from the original. Some of the original Trophy mod missions are not available as well.

I'm sure it's a good idea!
Personally, I try to make two versions: rus & eng, but it takes too much time.

frinik is not the same mission you are talking about.  You're not alone. there is a T-28 tank, a T-38 and infantry with you.

In this mission you have to breakthrough a road full of germans and reach a village called Staroselie. It's a mission about the battle of Smolensk 1941, a place were the Soviet 16th, 19th and the 20th Armies were encircled just to the south of Smolensk but large parts of the 19th Army managed to escape the pocket.

I'm going to upload my translation to mediafire and i will post the link a a few minutes

I've come to like the Stug from playing Achtung Panzer and would like to try it out. Where can I get the Stug mission you guys are referring to?

There's a short campaign for the StuG III C/D, included since SPM 1.4. Good luck, you will need it!  :)

Well you can always edit the Stug C/D missions through the Mission Editor and chnage the model for a STuf F early or late version otherwise against T34/85 it's mission impossible. There,s also a Stug III G mini campaign with 3 missions in both SP 1.4 and beta 1.5.

Hey Frinik, As for the ME, I just posted a question-mine's missing it seems. As for there being a 3 mission mini campaign in SP 1.5. Do you recall the name by any chance?

The StuG III G campaign is included with SPM 1.5.

It goes by the name of ... "StuG III Ausf G"... Who would have guessed?  ;D

Well, that's odd. I do not have anything like that in my listing of missions either in campaign form, single or user made.

my campaign missions:
Group North
Group South
Fredericus
Not quiet on the Western Front

I have 10 German Single Missions with no mention of the Stug

Also, I recall reading other posts regarding missions supposedly included in SPM 1.5 beta. Seems I don't have a number of "included" missions. Very odd.

Looks like you're missing all the SPM 1.4 and 1.5 campaigns.

You should be seeing a much longer list:

It might be a good idea to reinstall and activate SPM 1.5 again,

Hemi ; re your missing campaigns and missions I suspect you may have activated some kind of pre Beta mod or campaign inthrough mods enabler? It overwrote your Beta 1.5 menu?

If it's the case, before re-installling as Kyth suggested you may want to disenable and re-enable Beta in your JSGME see if Beta will overwrite whatver you activated? It happened to me once; by mistake I enabled campaign_04 instead of another mod and all my Beta menu disappeared leaving just the simple menu available for campaign_04 which goes  back to SP 1.2 or 1.3 I think.I considered re-installing but decided instead what I suggested to you and it worked.Another simple alternative to re-installing - if you have another installation of Beta Beta 1.5 - is to  just copy your user_campaigns(level/LEVELS/) in your other installation into your deffective or incomplete user_camp fodler. It will overwrite and give you bakc the complete game menu.

Thanks again guys
I thought I was going crazy as I've read about numerous missions included in 1.5 but they were nowhere to be found. I'm re installing the 1.5 beta right now. We'll see  :-\

UPDATE
Woohoo!!! Success, thanks Frinik & Kyth, now they're all there.

Kyth, your screen shot was great for comparing. This game is soooo bizarre, and I thought Silent Hunter III was unstable. That game is rock solid compared to SF.

Frinik
That's what I've got now pretty much. You do have some addl stuff but I see all the missions I've been missing. eg;  Stug, early Tiger, etc.

Did you get my PM?

Thanks for all the help

H

PS. When going to the map screen (F8) is there any way/trick to show only the map without the info screen coming up,  I know you can disappear it by hitting the book icon but it is set to show by default. Any way to turn it "Off" by default. When checking my map approaching a combat situation it takes valuable seconds to click it off.

Thanks again
H

There isn't any shortcut for taking off the info box. But I expect you'll get the hang of it, soon enough  :)

Yeah Kyth, I'm getting the hang of it...finally. Getting killed a whole lot less each time I play. Now I'm just looking for faster workarounds to be more proficient.

Cheers
