Title: Tank Crusader
Post by: alessillo on January 21, 2012, 12:29:53 PM
Hello all,

I would like to add some new tanks for this fantastic game, I started with a basic model of a Crusader for the desert mod

I followed the tutorial and I can import my basic model in the object editor

but when I make a mission to test the model I see this

Thank you in advance for your help

Cheers

I think, u've to check or uncheck "Make Y up" in kW X-port.

this is the result with "make Y up" checked...

OK. Can u enclose a picture of tank in Obj Editor? May be, u need to apply reset x-form in 3d max.

ps
did u align to the world a pivots? Also, u can play vs "Flip V Channel".

Looks perfect. Where did u place "s_root"?

ps
What about shadow, does it more bigger than original model?

s_root it's in the center of the model, but the shadow is very strange...

It does that u've mistake vs "reset x-form", imho. Try to du the next:
1. convert model in editable poly
2. apply "reset x-form"

It looks more like a combination of a faulty xform and a few wrong pivots.

So do like this step by step if you dont wanna try it out yourself:

1. Unlink all parents so all parts is seperate.
2. Apply Reset xform on exactly ALL parts including the dummys.
3. Select ALL parts and go to hierarchy tab, click Affect pivot only.
4. Click Center to object.
5. Click Align to world.

After that you need to fix all other pivots manually for hatches and proably turret and a few dummy sights. Parent all parts together again and try to export and look in game.

And also, Make Y up is for the model to change axis alignments when exporting, So if you check Make Y up you need to rotate your model accordingly 90 degrees. Its only for your conveniance so you dont have to rotate your model everytime you are going to export it. If you look at your first picture just rotate your model 90 degrees "forward" with make y up checked and you should be alright =)

Great work! Looking forward to seeing the Crusader and other 'cruiser' tanks!

(If you don't mind my saying, the turret needs to be set further in front. It's a feature of tanks with that type of suspension)

Kyth you are right, turret isn't in the right place and I can solve this easily but at the moment I have two more difficult problems in the right side of the tank

I'd guess it's something to do with 'Reset X-Forms' again,

It is the configuration file in \tech_cfg folder, after many attempts it works fine with the caterpillars of the T-26

It's very complicate to adjust properly all wheels and caterpillars and other important parameters.

Whukid; without skin you'd merely look like a walking skeletton! ;D

Touche. :P Still though; the stuff I do is the work of amateurs. I find my favorite medium in the Notebook section at your local grocery store. Lockie, Donken, and a few other chosen individuals possess the elusive talent of working on a computer

What the gun Crusader has: 6pdr(57mm) or 2pdr(40mm)?
If it'll be 6pdr gun then there's an appropriate reticle "No 54x3 ML Mk I" or "No 54x1.9 Mk I S."

I also play Forgotten hope 2.4.It's true that the tanks are lovely but in SF they work much more realistically. However the AI seems better in FH.

From the picture, it looks like the Crusader I or II, which were armed with the 2-pounder.

... I now understand your love for the early war years, when all tanks were generally equal.

True enough. With the Crusader tank in the game, there'll be only one big piece remaining: The famous M13-40 Italian tank.

first of all forgive me for my English, I'm Italian and I don't speak much English

The tank should be a Crusader I, with 2pdr gun

frinik: I discovered the game one month ago, tired of playing Steel Beasts Pro Pe in World War II style and imagine that a Leopard 1 is a Sherman, a Leopard 2 is a Tiger and so on... Thus I bought this game and I think it's the best WW2 tank game. Now I really want to add new vehicles, but please do not call me a talented model maker, I'm learning how to use 3ds max and sometimes I remain stuck in the program and I don't know what to do. One of the problem that I'm finding it's the lack of documentation about modding, the vehicle import tutorial it's unfinished and the script part it's not covered.

Now I'm struggling against all the invisible parts of the tank p_***, s_***, and the hatches and their animations, so I think that I will ask again for your help.

You can ask me everything you want to now, i think i got the hang of it to import models. But even i am still learning. But you can ask either Here or in pm (i prefer pm) or you can pm me if you want my mail and it would be good if you are using skype or any other chat client =)

Alessillo for a guy just beginning to model yu qre shozing q lot of promises

Me too I pay SB occasionally and despite Skybird's best efforts to convince me that SB can be played in WWII style I just couldn't find the WW2 atmosphere in SB!SF is simply the best WW2 tank sim ever made!

Thank to Donken and Mistwalker I solved a problem with the turret hatch, now I'm working on the various configuration files and on the texture, major challenge it's the bump texture, I hope to have something decent in a few days.

Cheers

Looks good, but I think camo is a bit strange, imho. But may be it's true.

It would be nicer rust-coloured like for the Tiger II.

Hi everyone,

There's some documentation in English about getting in new vehicles, which might explain some of the config terms more clearly:

http://www.graviteam.com/HELP/273.html (http://www.graviteam.com/HELP/273.html)

They're for the 'Operation Star' and 'Steel Armour' games, but there's enough similarity to be useful
