Title: Discussion: List of User-Made Missions
Post by: Estnische on February 06, 2012, 07:15:03 AM
Is there a list of available missions, as you might see at Mission4Today for IL2?

Could we start a sticky for it, rather than have newbies like me trawl for user-made missions made a while ago?

Title: Re: Discussion: List of User-Made Missions
Post by: frinik on February 06, 2012, 07:28:04 AM
No there's no such list.Part of the problem is that lost of missions are made by various individuals with a particular mod or new model being introducedthere's no compiling of all the missions avaiable.Als not helping is that some of missions or mission packs are not compatible with vertian mods or only compatible with a given mod or new vehicle.Still Kyth's SF download webpage should give you a variety of missions available.

Heh heh  ;D much as I'd like to take credit, it is actually Godzilla's download page at Mediafire:

Ah yes, I have seen that list, and Godzilla's installation guide on that forum is the most helpful I have seen.

BUT!

Firstly, the greatest SFK42 discussion is here, on Graviteam's own forum. Over the last two months, I've seen little English-speaking traffic on simhq and none anywhere else. If there is good advice to be had on SFK42, it should be here.

Secondly, again it flows like a random stream of consciousness  ;D

Why not start a thread with a structure controlled by the mods, reflecting the helpfulness of Mission4Today:

for example, every mission/campaign added would have its own post something like this -

Mission/Campaign Name: "Tigers In The Mud Ver.2"

Date Added: xx/xx/xx

Missions: Single Mission

Player's Vehicle: German Tiger MkI

Map: Izum (game stock)

Historical or Ficticious: Historical - In February 1944 Otto Carius and his platoon of Tigers were called upon to prevent the Russian forces of the Leningrad Front from crossing the Narva River 5km north of Narva, and by-passing the fortified Narva Bridgehead.

Mods Required: SPM 1.5 Beta, Rends Newbuildingsv3, Pink Paintbomb mod

JSGME Ready: Yes

Download Location: www.(link).com

File Size: 54Mb

Notes: This mission was updated on xx/xx/xx to include the Pink Paintbomb mod.

This format would make it easy for people to see what they were getting, how old it is, and so on.

What do you think?

Of course since Yiddish or Jiddisch is essentially Middle German mixed with Hebrew and a smattering of Slavic and other languages. When written or transcribed in Latin alphabet if you read German you can pretty much read and figure out 60 to 70 % of Yiddish except for some words.

The best idea would be to create a subforum: user missions, but I don't know how to do that.

Is there a "how to" about installing these missions?  Or is there an installer that does it?

Thanks to the mission designers.

Edit:  I see I have to modify a line in a config file.  When I open that file with MS Word, the line formatting is  a little off.  It's like it's word wrapped or indented so that the lines of text push over into the next line.  Is that config file just opened with a standard text editor?

Thanks for that.  It works better with notepad.

What is curious is that line was already in that camp file after I enabled Kyth's campaigns in the JSGME.  I did not have to add it manually.

Yes the Panzer 38t campaigns!

Seriously, though, I want to add the Ukrainian/Russian missions, but I'd like to convert them to be JSGME-ready. I haven't had the time, wot with the Carius Files...

Hi Estniche,
Well to be honest I did propose having a kind of file depot here at Graviteam a long...long...long time ago, that was way before the Graviteam subforum at SimHq. But for some reason Iceman wasn't recieptive to the suggestion  ??? Believe me when I tell you this site was a real ghost town then compared to now and as weird as this may sound SimHq had more SFK42 players asking questions on mods and installations then here. So I asked SimHq about a Graviteam subforum and they "sure" and asked me to do a sticky with some explanations of the mods and how to install them, I took it one little step further and included the Mediafire site (which was in all honesty just a quick and dirty solution) since it was a small problem finding certain mods at times. The main site that hosted most of the English and RU mods kept going offline for weeks, would come back on for awhile then go back offline again, it was pretty frustrating for new SFK42 players and to be honest it was getting really crazy for myself emailing all those mods with explainations on "how to" for individuals asking for them. But that being said I'm extremely happy to see this site becoming the main focal point for SFK42 and Graviteams games, and I would love to see what you proposed being done here. But also I'm extremely grateful to SimHq for allowing the interviews I did with Vlad and allowing a vehicle to get Graviteam products to be better known to fans of this genre.
Cheers

The 'user_camp.engcfg' and 'user_camp_list.engcfg' files only appear after you create a new mission, using the Editor.
However, in my Mission downloads, I've included some txt files that you could rename, to serve as the engcfg files.

I've added the 3 missions from yl9961027 to the List.
The mission filenames and formats have been tidied up a bit and made compatible with Ultimate Update, but the missions remain original and unedited.

Hi everyone,

I recently translated of a couple of early missions by a guy called Xream, featuring the T34/76.
If I'm correct, they were some of the earliest user-made missions (in 2008) for Steel Fury. They should be compatible with the stock version of the game as well as all later updates.

If you're interested, I'll package them in a JSGME format and post them on the List,

Okay, I've put up the first 2 missions by Xream.

http://graviteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=10102.0 (http://graviteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=10102.0)

As always, I have merely translated the text, briefing and map. The files have been arranged in JSGME compatible format. Other than that, the missions are original, without changes to the units or force balance.

Take note, in these missions there aren't any difficulty levels - you're playing at full difficulty always!

Oh that mission! I have it since its inception and frankly it's the most unrealistic mission ever made.A lone T-34 against stugs, AT ect with limited ammo.Impossible to win.My recommendation is to change the T34 for a KV-1 to have a minimal chance of even getting half-way through the mission. The map is very nice though!

Besides the naval and air bombardments, the most useful resource you have at hand are... the trees.  :D  Make full use of them! It is possible to hide in the forests to see and not be seen - be a tree, my friend. ( I'll allow you to figure out how to put that into practice )

Are you guys talking about XReam's 2 lakes mission with a lone T34????

That mission is addictive because every time you fail it you want to replay it until you win.Like Whukid I figured the ME is your best friend qand substituted the T34 for a KV-1...After 23 attampts finally succeeded but only because the KV has twice the ammo supply of the T34.YOu ought to try it with the KV-1e .THat tank is ven stronger.

Re Kyth' s missions; I have spent part of my week off replaying all his Panzer III missions.Great fun! What they lack in difficulty they sure make up in twists and finesse!

Hi Kyth
I'm really sorry but I absolutely cannot stand the 38(t). As we discussed awhile back I've used the ME to change it over to a pzIII. I reset the enemy forces to full experience and moral and set the difficulty level to 10. This pretty much balances out the difficulty (IMO) and still gives the experience which I think you were aiming for.

Now, back to the stupid mission. Yes Frinik, this is the one.

Cheers!

Hey Frinik
I didn't mean to call the mission itself stupid, I just meant that it's very frustrating for me to keep getting clobbered with so little ground gained. Actually in many ways there's a stroke of brilliance here on the part of the author. He went thru a lot of trouble placing all the initial AT positions and the way they're randomly occupied. This is giving me some good ideas for the mission I'm working on now.

And you're right about the map.
Cheers

I've included 2 files 'user_camp.txt' and 'user_camp_list.txt'.
Just change their extensions, to become 'user_camp.engcfg' and 'user_camp_list.engcfg'.

None of the links seem to be active. You'll have to send a PM to Lockie so he can give you an alternative.Once you download it again make a copy which you cna always keep as back-up so you can avoid dead links in the future.

Would u be so kind to accommodate er mission description according to the above ones?
