Title: Excited of South London! :)
Post by: Aces on March 05, 2012, 08:37:24 AM
Hi chaps,

I've been experimenting a lot over the last weekend and suceeded in a what I hope will be for many an interesting new development. I'll post some news and screenshots this evening,. Actually I'm pretty excited about the prospects. I want to try another small experiment this evening before I post later but expect some more detailed news this evening.

Sorry about the mystery, it is just that I want to dot my "i"s and cross my "T"s before posting.

Kind regards

Aces

PS. Actually I'm starting to get that excited, warm glow feeling inside, the one that I get when a modding idea starts to come together., which, I suppose, is why I've always been interested in modding  :D.

Hi chaps,

Apologies that I didn't post last night but I had a few computer problems which took all my free time yesterday evening. By the time I'd sorted them out it was getting quite late but I'll have some news to post this evening, I promise.

Best Regards

Hi everyone,

I was hoping to post some pics yesterday evening but here's my news anyway. I have been experimenting quite successfully with exporting/importing models and textures from APOS to SF. So far I've managed to do this with several models, starting simply with inantry MG-34 and moving on from there but I've not been having much luck with my PC hardware which has had problems over the last couple of days so progress is slower than I'd initially hoped and also I'm limited, except for weekends, to a maximum of a few hours in the evening.

Having said all of that I'm very happy and encouraged by the progress that I've made to date and I will have some good time at the weekend to devote to this work. I PM'd Andrey @ Graviteam to see if this was acceptable to them as a matter of courtesy and I'm delighted to say that they are happy with me to produce such mods for SF. I'd like to take the opportunity of publically thanking them, it is so refreshing when a company actively support and encourage the modding community and take an interest in their labours as they do.

More news soon,

Best regards

Leigh (Aces)

Sounds great Leigh,

I've not looked much at APOS, but could this mean new buildings for SFK42? With Lockie's announcement, we could have a whole new chapter about to open up.

It was a very spirited performance by the lads, they gave their all. A bit frustrating to loose after that but we tired a lot in the second half and loosing the "Ox" was a clow, nobody in MF to replace him on the bench. Pride recovered though! :D.

Excellent news on the APOS front......   ;D

and the ARs match was v.good ... v. unlucky with RVP missing that chance to make it 4-0

Hi chaps,

Finally gotten my head around the issues and I now know what I'm doing (always a good idea)  ;D

I've gotten a model from APOS>SF with correct scaling and texture and without skewing so need to move on from there over the weekend.

Hope to have more to show next week.

Best regards

Would it be possible to create winter verions of the vehicles that are in both games using the textures from Achtung Panzer?

Hi mate,

I'm still finding my way around, I thought I'd experiment a bit with SF before moving on. My main problem is that I don't use 3dMAX, if I did it would be easier as all the turorial stuff seems to have been written for Max and not Maya. Here's a Sdkfz251 with AA MG34 that I've been working on, I cannot find a way of doing dummy objects at the moment so that's slowing me down.

In the SF Object Editor, it's possible to copy a dummy from an existing model and add it to a new one.

When that's done, you can copy, rename and relocate dummies for cameras, smoke and flame effects, crew placement, etc. etc. (using the Object Editor).

Thanks mate,

The only way that I had some success was to open two editors, one with the original model and the other with my new model. then I used the copy andf insert selection icons. The only problem was that several have flag values of 0x4 and it wouldn't let me enter this value. I assume this is a binary value but it just wouldn't let me alter the stock 0x1 value?. Any help on the procedure for copying and pasting fragments from one model to another using the editor and setting flag value would be most appreciated.

Thanks mate,

Cheers

Aces

PS. I used DX Ripper and re-scaled the x and y to correct the model back to the correct dimensions to allow for the POV compression.

I'm not sure about the flag values, do you really want to change them?
Usually I just rename them and change the 'parent' settings.

Thanks,

I don't want to change the flag values but they get reset to 0x1 after I copy and paste the fragment and typing in a new value of 0x4, the original value, doesn't stick. Maybe I'm doing the copy and paste by the wrong method. What method do you use to copy a fragment from the original model to the new one?.

After selection, I just use the regular 'copy' and 'insert' commands.

Try them out with the '0x4' flag and see whether they work, you could delete them later if needed,

Thanks mate,

I think I tried that but the 0x4 flag value reset after pasting, i'll try again tonight.

Appreciate your help.
