Title: Mission: "The Panther's last Roar"(Panther F)
Post by: lockie on May 09, 2014, 06:35:26 PM
There will be a new mission devoted to the "Panther F".
(http://s5.postimg.org/af7nzwzkj/pz5.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/af7nzwzkj/) (http://s5.postimg.org/xez5kwefn/pnt_f.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/xez5kwefn/) (http://s5.postimg.org/u2sl2v5sj/pz5f.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/u2sl2v5sj/)
Here's a draft scenario:
Vlassov army was largely commanded by German officers. In the early days of May 1945 in Czechoslovakia, as the Reich is near collapse, a group of German officers attached to Vlassov army are trying to desperately avoid capture by the Red Army. After taking hold of a few "Panther F" on test trial at the Skoda manufacturing plant in Pilsen, they are going to force their way through Soviet lines and  surrender to the American in Budweis.
12 May 1945, the Red Army is closing in on Prague where the last German pockets of resistance are holding out. Meanwhile nearby, a small unit comprised of the two new "Panther Ausf. F" equipped with the gun KwK44/L70 are desperately trying to cross the Soviet line to surrender to the US 3rd Army which just occupied Budweis. Kampfgruppe `Schulze` commanded by Hauptmann Erich Schulze is determined not to fall into Soviet captivity. On the warm but misty morning of May 12th , the "Panther F" engines roar into life and head forward straight for Soviet held territory. Radio silence is total. The Kampfgruppe has just enough fuel and ammunition to make a quick breakthrough and punch their way to freedom. The men know that the Soviets have a thick defensive line of newly deployed T-44 and IS-3 tanks and anti-guns to prevent any German surprise attack on their flanks....

The KG's objective: smash Soviet AT defence, repel any counterattack and reach the American lines before the Soviets can muster reinforcements.

(This scenario was written by Frinik in October 2013)
(http://s5.postimg.org/fh65scydv/roar01.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/fh65scydv/)
I'd like to use this map with idea of the "Battle of Halbe". Perhaps, General Theodor Busse with Kampfgruppe `Schulze`managed to surrender to the American side ;)
As we know, the polygon in SF organized only for the area 2x2km.

Wow!It's lopsided in favour of the Reds.5 JS-3, 5 T-34s and 3 SU-100 against barely 3 German tanks....Add a Panzer IV G or 2....or a couple of Stugs /Jagdpanzers....

Now I like that adding new flora, reforesting the environment. Burning tanks, killing infantry and yet the delicate touch of the nature-lover, the passionate environmentalist...... ;D

That being said having new flora is definitely a good idea especially for those eager to try Western front style type of missions .

`Panther F` is almost ready! There is armor map left. Will1973 made a very hard work to adjust all gunsights, including stereo rangefinder. Unfortunately, it'll be kinda candy, coz it's impossible to use. The view through `stereo rangefinder' looks like aquarium, where u may adjust the focus on any fish and get distance.

First try to paint armor of the `panther` in color.

It looks fine, but after rendering some issues appeared :)

Some really nice progress there :D Looking forward to take it out for a spin ;)

Its a Kugelblende 80 on the front of all Panthers that had it (Late Panther A, Panther G and also Panther F) so the mg ball mount should be 80mm, not 23mm.
And the errors you got is from the uvw map. Take a look on the uv what parts are sharing the same uv layout and you should be fine :D
Also, im not shure about the side armor for the F, but its based on G and it have 50mm side armor. Not 40mm as on the earlier A and D models. So 50mm side armor is probably correct aswell!

Yes, but on the picture Kugelblende has a decorative role, coz under it there is armor 85mm. There is no hole at all :D So, I'll decrease Kugelblende armor to 5mm. And errors with armor does that I've to check UV map... again  ;D

This is a draft sample of the polygon, where mission will take place. There is no trees/bushes now. I'm planning to place oak wood, a couple bridges and small part of the town, which will be the main target for the German troops.
There is draft plan of the mission:
1. attack soviet stronghold(defence line) and expel enemy
2. repel enemy counter-attack
3. provide safe movement of the column (4-5 trucks)
Suppose, mission will take one hour or smth.
(http://s5.postimg.org/7j6otles3/polygon_01.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/7j6otles3/)

And this is briefing before mission will start:
In the early morning of May 12th, 1945 Hauptmann Erich Schulze gathered his men and addressed them. " Maenner, our situation is bleak the Ivans are everywhere. You know what awaits us if we are captured! As officers in Vlassov's army we will be shot, if we are lucky or dragged to a Gulag and worked to death if we aren't. The war is over our Germany no longer exists. Our only hope to ever see our homes again is to reach the American lines in Budweis and surrender to them to General Patton's men. We have 1 "Koenigstiger" and 2 "Panther F" in working condition. Let's use them to ram through the enemy. This fight is not about the Reich anymore, but for our freedom and to see our families. I am proud of all of you weary warrior. You have fought well for the Fatherland in your horses of steel. Now you will fight one more time for your freedom! Paaaaanzer vorwaerts!

Well, only in case if my tank has at least three turrets :)

Some news:
our mission received the new oak type – “Oak #03”. It looks bigger, wider with more leaves to compare with “Oak #01”. As we can see oak is small to compare with poplar. So, I think the size of the oak should be increased on 20%

Oaks become gigantic with age. I think you should increase their size by at least 100% so they match the poplars!

I've increased the oak size on 50% and added a third type of the oak ;) Here we are:

PS
Unfortunately, stupid AI doesn't want to shoot from MG of the turret :( There is possibility to make another version for the AI only and assign commander/loader to shoot from MG.
So, there will be two version:
1. for user, where he can shoot from turret MG
2. for AI, where commander may shoot from turret MG

Apparently not. There were unconfirmed rumours about a couple being used of the defence of Berlin but since no wreck has ever been found. Likewise there were rumours that some IS/JS3s were used but it' probably untrue and has never been confirmed by the Soviets.... Germany was in such a state of chaos by mid March 1945 that tank/weapons production all but stopped..

The trees look good but it's hard to concentrate on them, with the IS-3 in the picture! Looking forward to killing some German big cats in this, when a mission is made for them. Did they really have that camouflage? Reminds me of the original Steel Beasts!

I'm pretty sure, that no anyone `Panther F` weren't produced. That's why in the mission will be two experimental `Panther F`, which had enhanced hull from the `Panther G` and Schmalturm. These two Panthers were made in reality and were under testing. Suppose, they took part in the battle, when `testing fire ground` was captured by Soviet troops. Anyway, everyone feel free to replace in the mission `Panther F` on `Panther G` or whatever. Same with JS-3.

A couple words abt JS-3. As it appeared, idiotic AI gunner still didn't want to shoot from the MG mounted in the gun mask. That's why I had created a special units for the AI.
Where:
- AI gunner may shoot only from the gun
- AI loader may shoot from the gun mask MG

And there will be standard units for the user's use. Under user's command will be JS-3(AI).
(http://s5.postimg.org/t9opicxlf/0006.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/t9opicxlf/)
Here we're:
//IS-3 for USER
   txt_tn_is3()         {Heavy tank JS-3 ;}
   txt_med_htang10a_rkka()      { 1x JS-3(user use); }
   txt_med_platoon_htang10b_rkka()   { 2х JS-3(user use); }
   txt_med_platoon_htang10c_rkka()   { 3х JS-3(user use); }
   txt_med_platoon_htang10d_rkka()   { 3х JS-3(user use) + infantry; }
   txt_med_platoon_htang10e_rkka()   { 2х JS-3(user use) + infantry; }
//IS-3 for AI
   txt_med_js3ai_rkka()      { 1x JS-3(AI use); }
   txt_med_platoon_htang10f_rkka()   { 2х JS-3(AI use); }
   txt_med_platoon_htang10g_rkka()   { 3х JS-3(AI use); }
   txt_med_platoon_htang10h_rkka()   { 3х JS-3(AI use) + infantry; }
   txt_med_platoon_htang10i_rkka()   { 2х JS-3(AI use) + infantry; }

I think, that the same could be applied to JS-2.

Really excellent work with the new oak trees.  :)

Found this info about the IS tanks paint schemes.

http://books.google.com/books?id=K13He9byW0cC&pg=PA81&lpg=PA81&dq=is-3+tank+paint+schemes&source=bl&ots=m4P95PiwfQ&sig=USs6sLk7gXAl62PI0CeVfp469G4&hl=en&sa=X&ei=1saAU6HqEYWwyASGsYDIBw&ved=0CEAQ6AEwBg#v=onepage&q=is-3%20tank%20paint%20schemes&f=false

Quote... [Modelling the IS Heavy Tank] Some IS tanks were painted with intruicate three or fourcolour camouflage schemes.

Also that new IS-3 is a beast, extremely mint work.

It occurred to my mind that would be good to add note, that German tanks were short of petrol. That's why they had to pour off all petrol from other tanks to that three. And it was the reason why only 3 tanks took part in the battle. Will it be possible to add such note?
Tell me - YES! :)

I think SF has enough new techniks, well may be British side needs some. I'd like to concentrate on the small objects such as trees, gates, houses, lamps etc, which brings to the game more immersion/atmosphere. Imagine how will look mission for the M5A1(Dust in the wind) without new desert houses, palms, gates.

U may try mission "River of Doom" (M36 `Jackson`), where bridge already built.

I had to decrease trees quantity, coz it's almost impossible to go through it. Or may be I'll make surprise for the user.

Yeah, leaves subject to be adjusted.

Wow Lockie this is simply amazing. Kudos! Work very well done I am impressed!  :o

Whish there was a way to bring the graphic engine of the game up to date. Actually, Crytek the German game developers, is offering game developers their famous CryEngine used to make the Crysis series for 10 euros a month....http://www.crytek.com/news/cryengine-now-available-on-steam-for-just-9.90-usd-eur-per-mont. Imagine what Steel Fury would look like with the graphics of Crysis!

 Hey Lockie you'll be interested to know that they have a studio in Kiev! ;)

Yes I second that absolutely professional and unbelievable work Lockie. I have rarely seen games benefitting from so many improvements

One personal opinion; for the town I think it would look more natural to park the buildings on the side of a road rather than on these flat platforms surrounded by ramps or fences and which don't look natural. Towns tend to be built aligned on streets or roads thus...

Thank you :) Though, that's a bit exaggerated. Unfortunately I don't have a skill of painter :( Everything, which were implemented by me in the polygon is ordinary engineer calculation. Though, I tried to make smth. unusual.
Anyway, would u be pleased to make a picture what u want to see as a part of town? U can operate ONLY what already were made.
I want to start the mission and according to requests - make polygon improvements.

I don't need to make a picture I can describe simply what I would suggest: create several streets in parallel with some crossing each other and simply line your buildings on both sides like you would have in a normal city.

One thing I do when I run out of ammo , I just machine gun enemy tanks.Within 5 minutes if I am not dead they will bail out of their tank even though no real damage has been done.I guess it has to do with the hitboxes.....

Title: Re: Mission: "The Panther's last Roar"(Panther F) (under progress)

I think it has to do with the fact that MG bullets can disable the tanks main gun, if lucky, I've had it happen to me as well, that's why I adopted the same tactic against the bastard AI if I lose my main gun :)

Title: Re: Mission: "The Panther's last Roar"(Panther F) (under progress)

The more interesting fact, that 88mm gun can't damage front armor of the JS-3 from the distance ~900m!

BTW
I read that upper glasias of the JS-3 was a very weak, coz consist of two plates. Each time when shell with a good caliber (90mm) hit the frontal armor - the stitch(between two plates) became broken, thus no effect from the new form of the frontal armor.
And it's true. Look at the modern tanks, no ones has "pike-nose".

However I am sure the JS-3 can be killed by 88mm shots on the side of the turret or hull and proably form over 1000 metres....

Whelp, I agree with you, but for some reason it still hasn't been patched and has been part of the game since the demo  ???
So, the only way to get anything remotely enjoyable out of this bug is to try doing it to the AI every now and again ;)

Yeap. At the balance 5 there are 4 pcs. But I may say the true that experience for the AI JS-3 must be set up at level 4. This is maximum. At least AI will shoot faster and more accuracy. At all other levels AI of the JS-3 will be kinda targets in the gallery.

Can the word "Losses" be changed to "Kills" on the statistics page?  It's no big deal at this point.  Everyone knows what is meant, but Kills is less confusing because the stat is meant to indicate what the unit killed rather than what was lost by your side.

after uploading and enabling the latest files, I have a problem with the Panther F gunsight. It will traverse with the turret, but it will not elevate or depress with the gun. If I elevate the gun the muzzle brake rises up and hovers in the middle of the gunsight, with no barrel visible. anyone else getting this?

Using the same nta_halbe map, I would suggest creating a Western front scenario featuring the new Sherman and British 25 pdr gun defending the brideghead against German counterattacks. A sort of Remagen bridge scenario with the new Sherman, the other US tanks taking the bridge from the Germans and then the German counterattack to destroy the bridgehead defended by British 25 pdrs with infantry armed with bazookas and assisted by M36 and Shermans against the later Tiger I model + Pz grenadiere backed by Panzer IV H and spgs...

I would see the JS-3 attacking and taking the bridge and establishing a bridgehead..
Good idea. There is already prepared position, which consist of one trench for infantry and AT gun.

BTW

That was the road type, which I wanted to implement. Unfortunately, I don't know how to put the center line (white) on the road.

Personally, I think that Ford F-150 needs to be implemented into the game...   ;D

If Tanker gets the Ford 150 Then I want the Porsche Cayenne in the game as well ;)

I highly recommend to test mission `Go, bike, go` MP2.1. It is BMW-R12. Of course, it's nor Ford-150 neither Porsche Cayenne, but I guarantee a huge portion of adrenaline!

I'd like to clear up the situation with Hauptman Erich Schulze.
Quote from: 33lima
Schulze isn't telling his platoon commanders much about what they are to do, in this mission.
So you can't be Schulze, who will have made the plan for the mission, whatever it is, and who commands the whole force.
Hauptman Schulze was in this car.

Sorry, but I don't have much sympathy. His job was to run the battle, not drive into a position where some Red Army soldier with a Big Gun (or even a Little Gun) could take the opportunity to kill a lightly-armoured command vehicle marked for death by a fancy aerial.  ;D

I don't know at what stage in the fight he was killed; maybe it was after he had seen all the others get the chop and he just thought 'Oh, what the Hell!' and went for it.

Hauptman Erich Schulze is a brave soldier!

Nope. Each time when u start the mission u've the example - how the main task should be executed. And u've the name of the Hero - Hauptman Erich Schulze! Who is responsible for the mission ending.

I thought Frinik had revealed that it was really all your fault.  ;)

I may say that victory is always has a big number of the relatives. And only defeat is orphan.
