Title: Interesting analysis of tank casualties in Ukraine in 1943 Post by: Tanker on April 01, 2015, 03:07:54 AM Interesting figures from "Panther vs T-34 Ukraine 1943", by Robert Forcyzk.
-During 1943 the Red Army lost over 14,000 T-34/76 tanks -In the last 6 months of that year 493 Panthers were lost -50% of the Panthers lost were destroyed by the Germans when forced to retreat -51st Pz Battalion suffered 72 dead in July and August 1943, or slightly more than one death per lost tank -Soviet analysis indicated that 81% of hits on T-34s were on the hull and only 19% on the turret -Over 1/2 of all hits failed to penetrate the T-34 armor -During the July 26 fighting, 26% of T-34s were destroyed by 88mm guns, 40% by 75mm guns, and 33% by 50mm guns -Less than 1% of Soviet tanks knocked out by 75mm guns were hit at ranges > 1,400m, less than 10% were hit beyond 1,000m -Roughly 60% of tank engagements occurred between 200-600m and 10% were destroyed at 200m or less -Despite having diesel fuel about 25% of T-34s that were hit caught fire -Soviet tank crew losses were extremely high, with only about 25-30% of crews surviving the destruction of their tank Title: Re: Interesting analysis of tank casualties in Ukraine in 1943 Post by: FB_AGA on April 01, 2015, 09:17:54 AM -Less than 1% of Soviet tanks knocked out by 75mm guns were hit at ranges < 1,400m, less than 10% were hit beyond 1,000m Thanks Tanker for the information! May be "at ranges > 1,400m" ? Title: Re: Interesting analysis of tank casualties in Ukraine in 1943 Post by: Tanker on May 01, 2015, 09:06:09 PM Yeah, that would make more sense. ;D
