Hi,

The Mission Editor can be found in the Start Menu for Steel Fury, under 'Editors and utilities'.

Hello Iceman or whomever!

I have a small technicla problem.I made a copy of my Steel Fury game.My problem is that the mission editor in that game does not work because of course it's only a copy.So I am unable to load new user/made missions into that game.Is there another way other than loading them as datapack through the mission editor? Can copies of user/made missions be made and pasted into a game?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Hello frinik!

Create text files in a root folder of game (there where stater.exe) and in them to enter the text

For start of the editor (editor.txt)

Code:
"bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\misedit.program

For map creation (editor_map.txt)

Code:
"bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\newpoly.program

For mission creation (editor_mission.txt)

Code:
"bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\newmis.program

For the map generator (editor_map_gen.txt)

Code:
"bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\polygen.program
After that rename text files into something with *.bat extension or *.cmd and run.

Example
editor.txt -> editor.cmd
editor_map.txt -> editor_map.cmd
etc

------------
Or you can create shortcuts for "<game_dir> \bin\rel\shell.exe" and change "Target" in  Properties of the shortcuts

For example:
For start of the editor

Code:
"D:\Games\Steel Fury. Kharkov 1942\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\misedit.program
For map creation

Code:
"D:\Games\Steel Fury. Kharkov 1942\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\newpoly.program
For mission creation

Code:
"D:\Games\Steel Fury. Kharkov 1942\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\newmis.program
For the map generator

Code:
"D:\Games\Steel Fury. Kharkov 1942\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\polygen.program

i have tried both methods and no dice. there is no "editors and utilities" in the start menu, and when i try to creat the shell.exe shortcut and modify the "target" nothing happens. the version i have is by strategy first not lighthouse interactive. is there a chance that some things were left out. by the way i downloaded from amazon.com

as i stated earlier i was looking for help on how to access the mission editor, and to those that replied i say thank you very much. even with their advice i couldn't get access to the editors. as i said i got my download from amazon, and the product is made by strategy first not lighthouse interactive. when i went back to amazon to look at the desciption again there was no mention at all about a editor at all. so now there are companies slinging a cut down product >:( >:( >:( does anybody know where i can get my hands on the FULL version on the game?

 :)

Hold your horses,

There's one way to find out if anything's missing. If you're comfortable with looking through folders and files, try to check out the contents of the following folder:

<game's main folder>\programs

There should be something called 'misedit.program' in there, let us know so we can proceed to The Next Step.   ;D

I'll post a shot of my shortcut settings later,

biskit have you tried the method to create your own MEas I showed you in my post?Otherwise what I can do is PM you the files I have and you can paste them into your game´s main folder. It should work

Post your problem on the thread Steel Fury Support the admin guys are all part of Graviteam ´s development team ands should be able to help you solve your problem.

Anyway no matter who the distributor is it´s still the same game with the same game engine and root folder. So it does not make any sense unless you did not install the game properly.Try a new installation and see if you have the same issue....

frinik   if you could send me a copy of the \programs sub directory it would be very much appreciated

:-[ Your "programs" subfolder is in the "root" folder. There's also a 'programs.datapack' file. Never mind  :)

Here's the shortcut settings for the Mission Editor! Give it a try,

As you can see, the 'main folder' for my installation is C:\Games\Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942

That's why my Target is:

"C:\Games\Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\misedit.program

Yours should be

"Your main folder\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\misedit.program
Don't leave out the quotes,

Hope this helps  :-\

Yeah that doesn't seem like the normal install.

By the way, in my version the 'misedit program' is part of the 'programs.datapack', which is a compressed format. That's why it doesn't show up in any of my folders. It still works, though.

Have you tried creating the shortcut shown in the earlier post?

2.1 gb???? It seems to me that my own original download was a tad bigger; 2.37 gbs or something???? Could be that what Amazon is selling is not the complete version :-\

Title: Re: editor help
Post by: frinik on December 31, 2010, 04:10:19 AM
biskit could you post what your game main folder looks like? That would help us figure out what´s wrong and probably Graviteam support as well!

Title: bin sub folder
Post by: frinik on December 31, 2010, 04:24:15 AM
Biskit do you have sub folder called BIN in your game main folder? If you click on it inside there should be a file called base_editor.codelib.

If you don´t have that file then this may be the causae of your problem.

The biskit emailed me and it seems that he is missing some subfolders.I emailed him all I could yesterday and today again but unfirtunately I can't email him my root and bin folders which would likely solve his problem. The next best thing to do would be to go back to Amazon and ask for a refund or another installtion CD.It seems that his instal cd is corrupted or incomplete.

Title: Re: different versions of same game
Post by: Kyth on January 02, 2011, 07:24:39 AM
Hmm

I wonder what folders are missing from this Amazon / Strategyfirst version?  :P

On top of that, it appears there's a "Mods" folder and and JSGME included in the install?  ???

Always thought that was a separate thing.

Title: Re: different versions of same game
Post by: thebiskit on January 02, 2011, 03:39:12 PM
it was a digital download. redownloaded 5 times same thing have said that before. cant get refund, allready checked i am done with this. to frinik i say thank you for your time help and patience. i cant keep on doing this. and to kyth you might as well close my account i am out. later

Title: Re: different versions of same game
Post by: frinik on January 02, 2011, 05:39:55 PM
Kyth do you think you could copy the missing folders on a cd and mail them to biskit?Unfortunately I live far from the States in a country notorious for its unreliable and theft-prone mail service.I assume both you and biskit live in the US?Right?

I don't see any other solution.|I emailed him 3 times the ME text abd bat files and he says he got less than half of them.I checked my out going mail and they are all there?????

He seems to have given up based on his last post ...

What do you think???

Title: Re: different versions of same game
Post by: Kyth on January 03, 2011, 02:07:18 AM
Hi Frinik,

I could post them up at my host site, if that would help. Preferably in a zip / rar format.
I know that virus scans don't like .bat files, maybe that could be the problem with the emails,

What are the missing folders / files, by the way? ???

At this point, based on the few scraps of information from The Biskit, it could be due to anything... OS, AV protection, install error, etc. etc...

It's also possible that Amazon / Strategy First are peddling a bootlegged version... :(  Is that a likely scenario?

Yeah I think he has given up already  ::)

Title: Re: different versions of same game
Post by: frinik on January 03, 2011, 03:14:13 AM
In his latest email he made it bluntly clear(Hem...) that he does not have a F...... Programs folder in his game????

Amazon peddling pirated stuff???Unlikely but I suspect that the master copy of the game they use for their digital downloads is incomplete or altered.

Yeah hosting those file on your share file site might be the solution( I didn't think about that).Let's hope he does not give up and tries that solution.

I am surprised how easily people give up ???

Yeah I'm curious about this ... let's open it to the floor ...

To everyone reading this:

Has anyone downloaded the game from Amazon / Strategy First and gotten the same problem?
We would like to get to the bottom of this ... phenomena.  :-\

Thanks,

Hi, glad you're back.

You have the programs.datapack, good. The misedit.program and the rest of the program folder should already be in the programs.datapack file, they're just not visible because the programs.datapack is in a compressed format.

I suggest you try to create the shortcut for the mission editor (I assume you know how to create a shortcut?). Please read through this carefully and give it one last try:

Here's my shortcut settings for the Mission Editor.

As you can see, the 'Start In' entry for my installation is my 'main folder', C:\Games\Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942

Your 'Start In' or 'main folder' is where the game was installed.

My 'Target' is:

"C:\Games\Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\misedit.program

Your 'Target' should be:

"Your main folder\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\misedit.program

Remember, Do not leave out any of the quotes (" "), They're really vital in creating this shortcut.

Try it out, and let us know how it went,

Regards,

sheepishly i might add i got it to work and found out what was the problem the whole time. i made a shortcut of the shell.exe and pasted to the desktop and edited the "target" to say
"c:\steel fury\bin\rel\shell.exe" root\programs\misedit\program and nothing happened time and again. i used a copy of a .txt that frinik sent me and nothing happened.ok now im mad and thats when i blew up. it wasn't until your last post that i saw that i had to edit the "start in" line also. now that it is pointing at the main directory it works.now i feel REALLY stupid :-[
