Title: I think I'm going mad! (Sanity restored)
Post by: Aces on March 16, 2011, 08:39:53 AM
Hi folks,

I was forced to re-install the game the other evening. Everything went fine and I re-activated all my mods from a JSGME mod profile and I found I had the Pz IV gunsight problem despite having the unnoficial patch installed!. I un-inst alled all mods and the gunsight was blank, installed just the un-official patch and got the centre triangles back but no range scale round the outside of the sight. They only way that I can get the range scale back is with the Optics mod for Steel Panzers 4 but this makes the sights too small for my tastes. This wasn't the case before I had to re-install, I had the range scale and the sights were the normal size. I can't remember but do the un-official patch mod or the gunsight hotfix mod, both of which I've tried, only restore the center triangles and not the range scale to the Pz4's?!.I've experimented with different mod install orders but I have the problem as described above with only the un-official patch or gunsight hotfix mods installed and no other mod, this has got me stumped!.

Any help much appreciated.

Best Regards

Aces

Edit: oh and one other things, some months back I bought a 23 inch wide-screen monitor. I have tried the widescreen fix but it doesn't workl for me and I cannot get the writing at the top of the screen and the top of the compass rose to appear despite trying different widescreen resolutions I'm running at 16:9 aspect ratio. Are there any other known fixes for this problem out there please?.

Hi,

About the Widescreen problem: One suggestion, and this is a long shot,

Could you try hitting your monitor's 'auto-reset' button while in the game. It may not be centering properly when you change resolutions or refresh rates,

Thanks mate, a good idea, I'll try tonight.

Any thoughts on why the range scale has dissapeared from my Pz 3 and 4s?.

I've only managed to find the time to play through the first four of your missions and I'm really enjoying them. They are a real challenge and very well crafted, I particularly love the artillery bombardment in mission 1. Looking forward to playing the last two missions.

Best Regards

I think the same problem was mentioned by JohnN here:

http://graviteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=2435.60 (http://graviteam.com/forum/index.php?topic=2435.60)

If I may make a suggestion, the 'Backspace' key will zoom the sight in and out; maybe the calibration marks are there, but they're off-screen?

Thanks mate, I'll have a look at that posting.

The marks are missing in both zoomed and - un-zoomed views. They only appear when the Optics mod is installed but that makes both views very small compared with the un-modded views.

I'll try another re-install tonight see if that helps at all.

Aces

Edit: I just read that posting by JohnN and that's exactly the problem I'm having, eg. triangles in the middle (courtesy of the un-official patch) but no range scale around the edge of the PZ4 sight. I wonder if he fixed it?. I've never had this problem beofre and have been playing the game since I first installed it when it came out!!.

Okay,

And here's a short list of the other possible things to try, in order of increasing severity:

- Reinstall to a different folder;
- Update video drivers;
- Backdate DirectX to DirectX 9;

Okay thanks,

I think I'll try the re-install option tonight first. The video drivers and direct X (DX9 with Windows XP) have been working fine so I'll try that last.

Thanks

Aces are you  playing with the Beta 1.5 mod installed?

Could you post what your sights entry in your data/k42/loc_rus/level/LEVELS/tech_cfg/Panzer IV folder looks like? I could comqpre with mine and see what's missiing or different and tell you howx to fix the problem.

The widescreen problem is one encountered by some but not all.I have a 24" screen and play at res 1680 X 1050 both in game and screen resolution without any problems.

Hi mate,

Thanks for that info, very much appreciated. I am playing with SP1.5 Beta plus the beta fix. I will have a look in that folder and let you know what files ar in there. The interesting thing is that  with only the un-official patch installed and no other mods I don't get the range scale so it cannot be another mod that's doing it. I've tried 1920x1080 my monitor's native res and other widesceen resolutions but always the same.

Thanks again

Best

Aces depending on the type of gpu you have either ATI or Nvidia have you tried fixing your screen res from inside either the catalyst suite(ATI) or Nvidia´s control pannel?Does your screen have an option to play or not to play with wide screen in its menu?My Acer does.

I am pretty sure this lack of reticle grading and middle aim triangle is related to something missing in the common res files.If I can see yours and comapre with mine hopefully I could pinpoint the problem.ç

Hang on! :)

Hi mate,

Thank you for all your help I've now fixed the gunsight problem thus:

I re-installed the game to a different folder but the problem persisted so tried my original installation and changed the screen res to 1024x768 and there was the range scale!! but of course the sight was oval because of the different aspect ratio. I re-installed the wide screen fix (which didn't solve my wide screen probem) however it did resolve the gunsight problem so I can now run at 1920x1080 and the gunsight in the Pz3/4 is fine.

I experimented  with my monitor settings but it wouldn't resolve the widesceen text cut off issue but I'm more than happy to get the gunsight range scale back. :).

Thanks to all for the help,

Best

Glad you got the problem solved, although I have no idea how changing the resolution did it,  :)

Thanks mate,

I think that when I re-installed the game I didn't re-enable the wide-screen fix mod. I thought that it wasn't worth re-activating in JSGME because it didn't resolve my widescreen problem. I thought the only mod which had any effect on the gunsight was the unnoficial patch but I think that what was happening was that the range scale was there but was invisible as it was wrongly positioned and appeared as black against black. Re-enabling the widscreen fix mod, after the un-official mod did the trick.

Cheers and best regards

Ausgezeichnet! Aber wieviel panzern hast Du vernichtet?

Is this pic taken from your game? Looks like SF but in black and white ???

Cheers!

Quite a grim-looking screenshot! Is it from one of Frinik's missions?

On second thought, it also looks like Mission 3!  :)
