@Jochem Hraback
Hi mate,
Sorry about the short reply to your posting yesterday evening but I was working on some modding ideas and didn't want to loose my train of thought, something that's happens more as I get older, I'm getting those "senior moments" more frequently
. The reason that I haven't completed the patch yet is my decision to wait until after releasing v2 of my equipment mod as I didn't want to have to re-edit files and then release two patches in the space of about a week.
I do appreciate you taking the time to post the information about those games and for your kind comments regarding my various mods. I think that my relationship with gaming has definitely changed over the years. There are three things that have to be right in pretty much equal measures (and they seldom are) for me to enjoy gaming, namely:
1. Time, which is always a big part of the equation with my work, family and modding activities taken into consideration.
2. Enthusiasm/state of mind, often I simply don't feel "in the mood" for gaming any more or the game fails to spark my imagination.
3. Health, both mental and physical, I get quite mentally and physically tired nowdays and that doesn't make me feel inclined to load up a game either
.
Of course the above factors are so closely related that it is hard to distinguish between them, workload or other concerns effects the energy quota and time contraints which in turn bring new frustrations, it can be a bit of a vicious circle at times and my obsession with "modding" a strict mistress as the saying goes.
When I'm working on a new mod it sort of takes over my life to a large degree. Fortunately I have a
VERY understanding and long-suffering "modding widow" of an other half, BUT, I'm always conscious that it is an obsession and that I have to try and balance out my modding activities with the rest of my life but it is a very often a close call. Generally I'm at my happiest when I'm working on some modding plan and I still get a bit of a thrill when things come together. It is also a big compensation for my rather dull working regime. I regret that computer graphics and modelling etc. weren't really around when I was starting out in the working world as they are one of my greatest pleasures and I would (and still would) have loved to have embarked on a career in that area. Instead I ended up with a self-funded Science degree and a very dull and un-interesting, £^""$%^" desk job!, but that's just the way that the cookie crumbles as they say. I would love to combine my dual loves and knowledge of German WW2 military history and graphics/modelling experience into a career, that would have been perfect. I always enjoy the research aspect of modding as much as any other aspect, it is very educational and extremely fascinating and interesting.
It's funny how the human memory works isn't it, I just recalled something that happened when I was about 18 on a visit to the British Parachute Regiment "Red Devils" museum. I was walking around with the tour guide and kept stopping and commenting on their display of captured German WW2 equipment. I was looking at a tripod-mounted MG-42 machine gun and commenting on various features of the gun to a friend when the tour guide complimented me on my knowledge of the gun. I know that's not in any way unique but it serves as an example I think of how the memory stores information that is of personal interest. Ask me about something mundane that happened at work yesterday and it has not been stored in the grey cells, ask me about something of interest that I read in a book, watched in a documentary or saw in person more than 35 years ago and it is most often recalled in milli-seconds
.
Actually part of me secretly wishes that my interests had been different and less specialised as I'm fishing in a very small pond. There are probably many with an interest in military history, fewer maybe with a particular interest in WW2 military history, even fewer still interested in German WW2 history and even fewer still with the former and an interest in graphics and 3D modelling!, but dreams are free aren't they?!
.
All the best mate
Cheers
Aces
