Hi Guys,

I have this game since a long time ago,
however, I have not really played it, since I remember there were lots of bugs.
I remember trying the driving tutorial mission and get stuck in the mud, could not do nothing,
and the gunnery tutorial was also confusing, very hard to hit the target and when I did, the target won't get damaged.

So when accidently I read 33lima AAR,  I think I want to give this game another try.
Now, the game is improved a lot by the latest mods: NTA 1.8 and have lots of missions.
Thank you very much to all the modders involved.

Now I can play all the tutorial mission successfully.
However, the widescreen fix is still broken, the upper part of the message is still not visible,
as you can see here:

From Kyth's suggestion, I have changed the desktop resolution to something lower first,
then tried editing the config file in data/k42/loc_rus/config
from:
bb_wid = 1920;
bb_hei = 1024;
to:
bb_wid = 1680;
bb_hei = 1050;
and have tried other resolution too (1600x900).

and have tried checked & unchecked the 'Do not restrict Video Modes'
and have tried checked & unchecked the 'Desktop Resolution'
and have tried changing the aspect ratio to 4/3, 16/9, 16/1, 5/4,

but no matter what I choose, there is no effect for the game messages, it is still cut.

The only time the game messages is not cut at the top is when I use 4:3 resolution.

Is there other fix?

yes, I have applied the widescreen fix from here:

If "widescreen fix" didn't help, then use the next formula.
I.e. u've resolution 1600x900, then aspect will be 1600/900= 1.777 (or in case other resolution: 1920/1024=1.875)
Place this digit in the file data\k42\loc_rus\config\config.engcfg:
   aspect   =   0.000000;
change on
   aspect   =   1.777;
If it didn't help, then change digit on 1.9 or 1.6 and check out will it affect the messages in the upper part of screen.

yes I have already tried changing the aspect ratio number here:
   //ïðîïîðöèè ýêðàíà (4/3, 16/9, 16/1, 5/4)
   aspect   =   0.000000;
to: 4/3, 16/9, 16/10, 5/4.

all these number does not affect the game message window,
the top part is still unreadable no matter what numbers I put in it.

the main screen changes accordingly, though.
So if I put 4/3 or 1.3333, the picture in main screen is stretched horizontally (or distorted vertically).

I'm pretty sure the problem exactly with resolution and appropriate coefficient aspect. For any case try to enable the mode of compatibility with win XP for the next file:
Steel Fury - Kharkov 1942\bin\rel\shell.exe

One thing also open your bin( rel) folder in both the main data folder and in the data folder of the last mod that you have enabled and verify if you have that file:

 basic_game.codlib  03/01/2009  880kb

If you don't and have a similar file but the 2008 version then that could explain why you're having the screen bug.

My window is still win xp sp3.

Yes it is basic_game.codlib dated 03/01/2009
I have just verified it.

33lima says that he has the same "message cut" problem with me on his widescreen monitor.

lockie & frinik, do you also used 16:9 monitor?
and you never have this problem?

All the things that pop up the top are also on the map screen tab.

Just for experiment, I've made a simple fix where I added to the text 4 empty spaces. This pop-up text organized for the mission "Spotted killer"(Jagdpanter), MP3.61.
http://www.4shared.com/rar/uqyNUx20ba/4_spotted.html
Install it the last in line and have a look will it help or not.
