FATEFUL STRIKE - (Borki, May 17-18, 1942)

Finale of the Soviet operation to seize Kharkov in May 1942. The Red Army units are slowly moving through German defensive positions with the aim of closing the encirclement around Kharkov. The main strike force is introduced into the battle - the newly created Soviet 21 and 23 tank corps.
The last attempt of the Red Army to encircle the Kharkov group of the Wehrmacht. 6A together with 28A delivered strikes from the south and north, with the task of seizing the Kharkov area. Screening was provided by 57A and 9A SF, as well as by Bobkin Army Group moving to Krasnograd. The offensive began on May 12, but developed more slowly than planned. The Wehrmacht command organized a number of counterattacks by infantry divisions. All available German ATG, including 8.8 cm anti-aircraft guns, were pulled into the area of ​​attack. Soviet forces were continuously attacked by the enemy aircraft. By the end of May 16, the Red Army units were on the lines, which were plannned to be captured as far back as May 14. On the morning of May 17, the 6A command brought the main strike force into the breakthrough, 21 and 23 tank corps...

DAWN OF BLAU - (Verhnyaya Lubyanka, July 1, 1942).

CROATIAN LEGION - (Odintsov, July 2, 1942).
First days of the German operation "Blau" in the summer of 1942 in the Oskol river area. Composite detachment of 13 TC is trying to assist the retreating Soviet rifle divisions, hitting the advancing enemy forces - 369 Croatian reinforced infantry regiment - from the flank.

DRIVE ON VORONEZH - (Shilovo, July 4-6, 1942).

Intending to enter Voronezh from the south, on July 4, 1942, units of the German 24 TD crossed the Don river without heavy equipment and began advancing in the direction of Voronezh. 232 RD and 110 TBde were to stand in the breach.
On the morning of July 4, 1942, forward units of the German 24 TD reached the Don river in Yunyevka area, overrunning forward covering forces of the Soviet 232 RD. By 10.00 motorized infantry with forces of up to two battalions, having smashed 498 RR defenses, rushed towards the south-western outskirts of Voronezh. 498 RR was assigned a combat mission: restore defensive lines and throw the enemy back to Malyshevo village. 110 TBde took initial position in the south-western outskirts of Voronezh with a mission to destroy the enemy in Malyshevo area.

DON BEND - 23 to 25 July 1942 - Kletskaya - Kopanya - Ostrov, Volinsky - Pervomaisky - Lipo-Logovskyy - Pobeda Octyabrya area

German troops broke through the Soviet defenses in the bend of the Don River, are advancing to the crossings near Kalach, with the task to cutting and defeating elements of the Soviet 62A. The Soviet HQ formed the 1TA with two TCs, which were tasked to attacking the enemy that had broken through.
The troops of the Stalingrad Front are fighting with the German troops that have broken through on the front line. On the morning of 07/23/42, the enemy, having pressed the 62A elements, went on the offensive with the forces of 2 TDs and one MID, broke through the 62A flank, began to spread to the east with tanks and motorized infantry in the area of Kletskaya - svfm Kopanya. German aircrafts continuously attacked 62A units, bombed railway junctions and destroyed wire communications. On 12:00 July 24, some German units reached the Ostrov, Volinsky area.
The German troops strive to reach the right bank of the Don River, capture the crossings, cut off parts of the Soviet 62A and destroy them with a subsequent blow. On July 25, for the advance detachment of the German 3MID, the task was set - to capture the crossings at Kalach. 53mcbn was supposed to suppress a small bridgehead on the right bank of the Don River and then occupy the bridges...
From the Soviet side, the newly formed 1TA (former 38A) is entered into the battle, consisting of:
13TC (163, 166, 169TBdes) is subordinate to 62A and is fighting in the area of the svfm Pervomaisky.
28TC (39, 55, 56TBdes and 32MRBde) with the task, at the end of July 25, concentrate on the Lipo-Logovskyy - svfm Pobeda Octyabrya area.
The Tank Corps of 1TA have the task to counterattacking the enemy that has broken through...

BIRD GROVE - (Olkhovatka-Gnezdilovo, September 15-17, 1942)

In September of 1942 38A was assigned the mission to draw enemy reserves from the Voronezh to the assisting the offensive of the Voronezh Front to capture the city. The main effort directed towards Olkhovatka, was the sector where the German 377ID held carefully prepared defensive positions...
In September of 1942 38A was assigned the following mission: To draw enemy reserves away from the city of Voronezh with the goal of assisting the offensive of the Voronezh Front (the objective of the front's offensive was to capture the city of Voronezh). The mission was to be carried out by the forces of 38A's left flank with the main effort directed towards Olkhovatka. Opposing 38A's planned offensive was the sector of 377ID, where the enemy held carefully prepared defensive positions. 240RD, 104RBde, 253RBde, 86TBde and 150TBde were the units initially assigned to the mission by 38A command.
A successful breakthrough at Olkhovatka would have enabled the Red Army to advance on the west side of the Don, along the German Don frontline, towards Voronezh. In early December 1942, an operation began to destroy the Ishcherskaya-Mozdok group of the enemy.
